I am making myself a new dress that will be lined with nylon tricot and I am a little nervous about heming the lining. Does anybody have any tips? It seems to me that tricot would be less forgiving than even a regular knit fabric.

good thought. the dress fabric is a sheer jersey knit and will show anything beneith it, that is why i was concerned about hemming the lining in the first place.

Corrine, one more thing--if your materials are really sheer you might not use the lace hem tape but the ribbon hem tape--it looks like binding but it much lighter not to weigh down your fabric. I wonder if the lace will show through since it's got the holes in it?
Just a thought.

no, the explination is great. usualy i would do the dress and lining wrong side to wrong side, but since my over layer is very sheer, i'm not this time around. thanks for the help. i'll post a pic when i get the dress done.

I would machine sew the tape onto the bottom edge of the lining, right sides together, then fold up the hem to the inside if the lining is a free-hanging lining, and hand hem in place. If you're sewing the lining to the dress, you could do the opposite so the raw edges and folds would be towards the wrong side of the dress so nothing but your fold shows and not the tape.
I'm no good at explaining something visual with words. Sorry.

I would use lace hem tape sewn to the bottom of your lining right sides together, hand sew the hem from the tape to the fabric. Your nylon tricot shouldn't fray so you could just sew the raw edge to the lace hem tape and once you turn it up to hem the raw edges won't show.
