Hello everyone! I was just reently looking for knitting patterns online and I came across the concept of "comfort dolls." They are dolls that you make, either by knitting, crocheting, or sewing. You donate them to various organizations and they send them to places in need and distribut them to children. If you search "comfort dolls" online, you will find many sites about them. The site I found first was, http://www.squidoo.com/african-knit-dolls Check it out. It sounds like a great idea! I want to start making them and sending them.

Has anyone ever done this before? What pattern did you use? I'm thinking about knitting them.

It was just an idea. I can't commit to taking the leader responsibility now. My little boy, Danny, is in the hospital again and I have to drive for 2 hrs one way to see him.
Anyone else interested in leading a project?

on that site, squidoo, there was a pattern for knitting the little dolls. or crocheting them. It was down further on the page. If you need anyone to make some and send them to you maybe you should ask if people would be interested in sending them to you and we all who knit or crochet could help out and send them to you for you to forward on?? Just a thought? Beverley

I have done some with a site that provides it's own pattern. There are a couple of them that have a sewing pattern that is simple.
I'm going to check out the knitting one you have.

What about starting a topic here with someone who will package and send some that we donate?

Those are really cute! I read a while back in Country Woman about a group that crocheted teddy bears and gave them out to needy kids. I think she sent them all over the world.

My little group is trying to do the same but with teddy bears. Click the link below. I can't think of a better thing to do then to give back with my little bit of crafty-ness. Good luck to you!
