Posted - Oct 11 2008 : 7:01:53 PM *blush* boy do i feel foolish! i finally figured out what my problem was. i was reading the pattern as tho it did the front on one page and the back on another! it is left front and right front! geesh why do i always make the simple so difficult? lol i managed to get thru 1 1/2 rows of pattern before i am once again messed up. i am sure that it will mean doing a lot of unknitting *sigh* but i will get it! thanks so much for trying to help this thick headed old hippie! i do have markers every 10 stiches so you wouldnt think that i could get very messed up (but then we would both be wrong wouldnt we? lol) peae connie in alaska |

Posted - Oct 11 2008 : 2:19:07 PM Connie, usually there will be the graph and an outline around the "repeat rows" that you work over and over and this outlined portion is usually near the middle of the graph. Anything like that? The different sizes will be below for adjusting. If you don't have any of this, and it's a set-size pattern like a sock or a scarf, I would imagine you just repeat the pattern on the graph? A reminder, all graph knitting patterns are read right to left, backwards from regular reading.
You might just have to try continuing the pattern to the marker for a few rows and see if it's turning out. Jami in WA

Posted - Oct 11 2008 : 2:11:57 PM Do the general instructions tell you how many times to repeat the pattern for each row? if the patteern stops midway then you probably need to repeat the pattern for the row once more.
Believe me I'm no expert when it comes to reading graph patterns. I just learned how to do it recently myself and I had to tear out rows more times than I care to admit!

Posted - Oct 11 2008 : 10:51:22 AM thanks diana, it is a good link but nto what i need *sigh* here is the pattern for one row as it is shown on the graph. i will mark my starting point for the size i need with a backslash. i wont put in the colors just X and o as they appear. xxooxxocox oxxooxxxoo xxoxoxoxxo oxxxooxxox oxoxxoox xxooxxoxox oxxooxxxoo xxoxoxoxxox o/xxxooxxox that is read from left to right. the pattern ends just past mid row. do i start reading again at the beginning of my size or at the right edge of the pattern? i just cant seem to wrap my brain around this! it isnt coming out right no matter what i do lol. if it were the dead of winter i would say my brain was frozen but i dont even have that excuse lol. peace connie in alaska |
