Going to a huge sewing expo on Saturday with a friend. This will be my first. I went to a quilt show one time at this same venue and it was huge! I can hardly wait to see all the new stuff! I grabbed a flier from the local quilt shop and I can't believe all the stuff going on. I didn't sign up for any of the sessions but there seem to be some amazing things out there in the sewing world these days. My friend has a few machines and one of those nice embroidery ones. I just have my tried and true workhorse but I'm still looking forward to ooooing and ahhhhing over all kinds of neato stuff. I'll try to take a few pics. Anyone else ever been to something like this?

Wasn't as big as I thought it would be but still a lot of fun. Found some fabric (of course) and other little tidbits. Saw a great little presentation on a sweatshirt re-do. The pattern was $16.50 but after sitting through about 40" and several examples AND drawings....I don't think any of us had to go over a buy a pattern. They were pretty neat. Great project for leftovers in the stash and a thrift sweatshirt! I got a grab bag of felt and a kit for making a felted amulet bag. Oh, and got inspired to maybe try to knit an amulet bag with beads! I may take a class with my friend. I've never knit with beads. Anyone else? TONS of quilting stuff and tons of quilting machines! Wow! The prices!!! A fair amount of make and takes and a "re-construction" zone for re-making old blue jeans into bags, pillows, and stuff like that. We were done fairly early and I still had some time to get to the bookstore and swing through Jo-Ann's for some lining for the jacket I'd like to make from the fabric I bought. (Wicked Witch of the West!!) I did get some pics of the "contest" entries. I'll try to post if I can get them out of my camera (my own computer is down right now) Great "sock" critters! Wow! Lot's of imagination went into those. They had an evening gown section too. Another Wow! All dressed up and NO WHERE to go on that one!! (lol) Quilting everywhere. Embroidery machines with hundreds of computer designs. Interestingly enough...no aprons...BUT a LOT of vendors were wearing them! It seems that asian inspired dressing is in. Many jackets in soft shapes with silks/brocades/raw fiber fabrics. Kimono shapes. And bags....lots and lots of bags! All shapes, sizes, design. Embellishments for EVERYTHING! If it's out there you can turn it into something else! Glitter, glitz, buttons, lace, fiber, beads, paint....take it and create something new!!! It's all about making it your own!

The sewing expo comes to Kansas City as well. I love to go and see all the quilt creations people make, and all the lateast ideas on the market.
