Posted - Sep 21 2008 : 11:24:33 PM Here's a simple tut for french seams and for (flat fell seams...these are the type of seams found on blue jeans) It's the french seam taken a few steps further by stitching down the casing on both sides. http://www.burdastyle.com/howtos/show/149

Posted - Sep 20 2008 : 2:29:23 PM me too, oh. Learn something new everyday. Do french seams get done by hand often, or is it more for a machine sewer?
Last Wednesday, when our farmgirl chapter made aprons, I got a lesson in sewing bias tape on the edges of an apron. It was interesting to watch the bias tape being sewn on, much easier than I ever thought it would be. Then, when I went and looked at the vintage aprons I have collected and saw how all the bias tape was applied, it was like seeing it for the first time. I have hand sewed for years, so lots of sewing things are still new to me!

Posted - Sep 20 2008 : 11:39:26 AM A french seam is when you take your two pieces that you are sewing. Place them together right sides out, do a straight seam. Then turn the work inside out and sew a seam slightly to the outside of the exterior seam. This encloses all the raw ends and creates a finished seam appearance from both the inside and the outside! http://www.sewneau.com/how.to/french.seam.html
