Hey Jami, omg...they'd throw me under the jail for all the labels I've cut off of pillows alone!! LOL
Heirloom Labels is another one that is reasonably price and they have a totally woven line of sew ins that are affordable..
Yes, it's not to expensive to come up with all you need to be within the laws...atleast the attempt has been made and that means alot, right? There are a few graphic designers online that are making custom cloth sew in and they are very reasonably price too..I've been thinking of trying them out.

Stephanie, wouldn't it be a hoot if your cell mate was a tag remover (tis a federal crime to remove those tags on mattresses and pillows, remember?) You two could be real troublemakers for the rest of the inmates!
That was said tongue in cheek, but onto the subject - when I started making homemade stuff to sell I found namemaker.com online and bought some generic care labels (hand wash, drip dry, etc) and 100% wool (for my woolen items) on there fairly cheap. They sew into a seam with raw edges on one side. I also make hang tags with the materials used listed on them along with my cutesy stuff about the product. I had some custom "made by" labels done up too with my business name and the city and state that sew on. I found other sources for these types of labels but namemaker seemed to have the best pricing although some of their customized labels are a bit hokey looking for me.

Here's a few links I came up with for the labeling..looks to me like the answer to your question may be here somewhere. These are government sites so it'll give you ALL of the details...woohoo...After reading the copyright laws, cosmetic laws, grade A dairy laws and requirements over the past years I took a break...omg, it's enough to make you wonder how anyone SMALL is in business!
I had wanted to open a grade A cheesmaking parlor to use my goat's milk to make artisan cheeses to sell to chefs and natural food markets. The laws are ALL written for the super huge big guys in the cow dairies...no way I could meet the $$$$ requirements to get going..
So the labeling issue is written the same I'm sure...for all the big guys in business doing the mass marketing. I'm betting though there are exceptions for certain clothing...

Gosh, I don't know. I'll see if I can research it too. I have only put hang tags on my items and fortunately they have listed everything required. I have been toying with the idea of making my own printable cloth tags. I have the paper and the printer so why not?
Bonne, that is why I don't want to sell my cosmetics. I don't want to have to get insurance. We live in such a sue happy nation. I also put disclaimers on my capes and skirts that I make and sell, that I am not responsible for any tripping or flames from improper use and/or wear of the article of clothing. One just never knows about sue happy folks.

I posted to the person who wrote that and asked for the statute number. I have not been able to find any thing pertaining to the law on this while researching. Most of what I've come across is what others have written but no actual stated law on it. Anyone know where I might find more information?

Thanks for posting Georgann. I guess for things that are sold on etsy like tea towels that already have a label it would not be necessary but it will put a crimp in for those of us who only have a few things listed. She mentioned a hang tag so I'm wondering about including something like that when you sell and send the item. Could everything be listed on there?

I know when I first started making soap and reading the soap forums, I learned about all the labeling required for selling "cosmetic" items~lotions, creams etc. etc.
Most of the gals that were in the business of selling their B&B products also carried insurance. You could be sued if your product "harmed" a customer.
Wise to check into all the legal stuff when thinking about selling your handmades.
