On layaway is a Pfaff 2027 sewing machine in my name! I got to test drive it today and fell in love. I will get one lesson when I pay it off which I will use for learning how to use the machine quilting foot.
I also dropped off my serger which I bartered for last year- used for 10 minutes and the feed dogs froze on me. It is a new machine only never used after she took lessons to use it- it sat in the box for over 10 years! So it is getting a tune up. So I will be in sewing heaven in a few weeks..

it winds through the needle. or you can unthread it and wind it the normal way. But when you are in the middle of sewing it sure is nice to just pull the thread up- leaving it threaded and wind your bobbin.

Gotcha. Simple is best...looks best and is easier to make look nice. Ah well, you have a new grocery store bag eh?
So, you still didn't tell me how it winds a bobbin...just curious. I love sewing machines and learning about different features.

Jami, I was going around the part that handle is attached to the bag- in a square. I should have just used a straight stitch all the way around and then did an X through the square- I even have a double thickness straight stitch that would have been fine. but the one I choose is double xx and it was hard to get it to look uniform going around the square.. and reversing made parts thicker than other parts..
It is very sturdy and I will use it. but you know how it is- I could never give it as a gift.

Debra, what do you mean? Does it wind through the needle or have a separate bobbin winder? My machine winds through the needle and I do love that feature.
I have found that doing the decorative stitches on heavier thicknesses requires pretty heavy thread to match. Not sure if this is why you didn't like how your tote turned out but I too tried a lot of decorative stitches on things that needed either stabilizer behind it or heavier thread and I didn't like how it turned out until I fixed those things.

I did sew a tote bag today.. it was to be for the swap. but I am not happy with the bag- it is quite usable but I used a special stitch for the handles to make it sturdier but it made it look not so nice.. it is quite sturdy though. SO I will use it and it is back to the drawing board for the swap bags.
It is a nice machine and a joy to sew on. I love that when my bobbin runs out I don't have to unthread it to wind new thread onto the bobbin- that is really cool.

Debra, that is a fine machine you got. I almost bought one when I was searching out machines and just didn't care for the dealer so much so didn't. Dealer support is so important when buying a nice machine like that. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come! I love the IDT on the Pfaff...that baby can sew through just about anything.

no embroidery.. but 40 something stitches and I am getting the pressure foot to do free motion quilting and the quilting table top that extends the sewing surface especially for doing quilting.
I am so looking forward to my serger being fixed.. great for making cloth napkins, soft baby wipes and burp rags etc...

Those sergers take some getting used to. I have had mine for over 10 years and I hardly ever use it. My eyesight is not what it used to be and so threading it takes a lot of work.
Enjoy your new Pfaff. Does it do embroidery? That is my next acquisition in the sewing arena.
