Diana that throw is gorgeous. How lucky your friend is to receive such a beautifully made gift. I wish my eyesight was better, I'd love to learn how to do this!

Oh Diana, that throw is just beautiful! I'd never heard of Swedish weaving before coming to Mary Jane's. It is truly lovely and I know it must have taken you many hours to make. How very talented you are!

That is really really beautiful, and so is the photograph. IS there a lot of pulled worked in it along with embroidery?

That is just gorgeous! I have never seen or heard of Swedish Weave before, but that is just beautiful. It must have taken you hours and hours.

Oh thank goodness! It seemed the more I typed and posted, the worse it sounded! Like you, I go rescue handmade items from thrift stores. I know mine will end up there - darn kids LOL

oh hey gal..I didn't read it that way..LOL I knew what you meant and where you were coming from.
I knew very well when I bought it that no one had even bothered to take into consideration all the time and effort put forth into hand embroidering that thing! I was amazed to find it where I did...and for as cheaply priced as I did.
I knew it was more than a steal of a deal when I came across it..and am glad that I gave it a new home and a place where it would be appreciated.
so hey..no worries here..I didn't read anything into your comment..knew where you were coming from and totally agree.

Thank you guys. It is an easy enough stitch to learn. I blooged about the steps here: http://montanamadetradingpost.angelfire.com/blog/index.blog?start=1219170659

Beverly, you can get Monks Cloth at Wal mart. It is an open weave fabric. The weave shrinks up after it is washed.

Tina - I wasn't directing that comment on the price you paid. I just get kinda mad at no one in general, just mad that so many women I know undercut themselves when selling homemade items. You should be able to sell that for alot, but people don't seem to understand the work someone puts into something like that. I guess they are just use to machine made things. Anyway, it is one of my major "buttons" and I will stop grousing now! ;-)

Deb, I believe it was 3 yards. I will be more than happy to enable, err, help you :-)

yes, true..well.. no doubt it is well worth more than the $3.99 price I paid for it..if not to anyone but myself. :0)smiles.
I'll have to get a photo of it soon.
Anyhow..yours is lovely, and I know your friend will be more than thrilled to have it in her home.
good luck to you and keep on stitching!

Thank you Ladies. It's nice to have your work appreciated :-) It was made for a friend of mine, and I think she is happy with it.

Tina - I don't know how much blankets like this go for. I do know that in the world of handmade fiber goodies, people want to pay you less than .50 cents a day for wages! We are all use to cheap prices!

I would love to see a picture of the blanket you have.

feeling encouraged now to make another :-)

wow..so that is what that is called. I bought a vintage throw very similar to this one shown from the goodwill a while back for only $3.99..it had a heavy feel to the cloth, and soft like cotton.Nice to know what it is called now. And fringed on edges just like yours. the design is done in browns and oranges but of a large celtic knot design .
Any idea how much something like that would be worth now?
It is all totally hand stitched..like yours here.
