Posted - Aug 17 2008 : 7:27:23 PM Hello to you all tonight....... I just bought a Bernina 180 with the whole embroidery shabang on it. I'm having an anxiety attack. I've driven an old Viking for 20 years that goes forwards and backwards with a straight stitch. I don't even known how to thread this new thing.
Any recommendations on how to learn to use this. It's beautiful and it's a Bernina so I'm very excited but I'm kind of having buyers remorse because it's so fancy. (I have a treadle machine too)
I bought it off of craigslist for a killer deal and it appears to work great, the woman I bought it from was overwhelmed also with trying to use it.
Any websites, ideas?

Posted - Aug 19 2008 : 09:00:17 AM Lucky you!!!!! I have had a Bernina 930 for 20+ years. At the time when I bought it I too felt like it was too fancy but it has served me well. I would go to a dealer and ask them for help. When I bought mine they gave me classes on how to use it and then also had other classes on embroidery and other sewing classes. I found the dealers to be very helpful. Happy sewing. They are the Mercedes Benz of the sewing machines in my book.

Posted - Aug 18 2008 : 8:24:10 PM Jo,
I've had 2 180's - so I can walk you through just about anything you have questions on. I also have a very good friend at a dealer so I can get you a manual.
Let me know how you want to get started! I emailed you privately too!

Posted - Aug 18 2008 : 8:02:00 PM there should be a tutorial book you can get that takes you step by step through your new machine. a bernina dealer might be able to order you one and perhaps you could call and get them to order it and send it to you? Just a thought to try. beverley

Posted - Aug 18 2008 : 2:58:54 PM I don't suppose you have any availability to classes where you are. That would be my first suggestion, but since you got it off Craigslist, it doesn't come with any "backup" unfortunately. :( Keep googling "Bernina" ~ email them for suggestions and explain your dilemna. If they have any kind of customer support, I'd think they'd want to keep you faithful to the brand.

Posted - Aug 17 2008 : 8:40:01 PM Did it come with a owner's manual? Guide? If not, might try Ebay and get one if you can find one. If it were me, I'd take a class from a Bernina dealer if you've got one available. It would put me over the edge to muddle through since it will do so much. I a Googler and that's where I would start. I would Google the model and owner's manual. I'm sure there's a Yahoo group for that machine and they'd be a real wealth of knowledge too.
Lucky find! Enjoy it girl!
