Hello to you all tonight....... I just bought a Bernina 180 with the whole embroidery shabang on it. I'm having an anxiety attack. I've driven an old Viking for 20 years that goes forwards and backwards with a straight stitch. I don't even known how to thread this new thing.

Any recommendations on how to learn to use this. It's beautiful and it's a Bernina so I'm very excited but I'm kind of having buyers remorse because it's so fancy. (I have a treadle machine too)

I bought it off of craigslist for a killer deal and it appears to work great, the woman I bought it from was overwhelmed also with trying to use it.

Any websites, ideas?

Congrats on the Bernina...check with your local sewing machine dealer if you have closeby..they always offer classes to get you up and running. Bernina is a wonderful machine..you'll love it once you realize all the great functions that it offers.

Hugs…

Lucky you!!!!! I have had a Bernina 930 for 20+ years. At the time when I bought it I too felt like it was too fancy but it has served me well. I would go to a dealer and ask them for help. When I bought mine they gave me classes on how to use it and then also had other classes on embroidery and other sewing classes. I found the dealers to be very helpful. Happy sewing. They are the Mercedes Benz of the sewing machines in my book.

Jo,

I've had 2 180's - so I can walk you through just about anything you have questions on.
I also have a very good friend at a dealer so I can get you a manual.

Let me know how you want to get started!
I emailed you privately too!

there should be a tutorial book you can get that takes you step by step through your new machine. a bernina dealer might be able to order you one and perhaps you could call and get them to order it and send it to you? Just a thought to try. beverley

I don't suppose you have any availability to classes where you are.
That would be my first suggestion, but since you got it off Craigslist, it doesn't come with any "backup" unfortunately. :(
Keep googling "Bernina" ~ email them for suggestions and explain your dilemna. If they have any kind of customer support, I'd think they'd want to keep you faithful to the brand.

Did it come with a owner's manual? Guide? If not, might try Ebay and get one if you can find one. If it were me, I'd take a class from a Bernina dealer if you've got one available. It would put me over the edge to muddle through since it will do so much. I a Googler and that's where I would start. I would Google the model and owner's manual. I'm sure there's a Yahoo group for that machine and they'd be a real wealth of knowledge too.

Lucky find! Enjoy it girl!
