CHICKEN CHASTITY BELTS??!!! ROFL
Ok, I'll admit, it's a good idea!
What you really need though is a ROOSTER CHASTITY BELT!
Why do the women always have to worry about this stuff?
Get responsible, roosters! EQUAL RIGHTS FOR PULLETS!!!!

Of course, you'd have some frustrated roosters, that might be a problem...

I have a few of those saddles, I still have one hen in hers because she was so torn up on the back from a over eager rooster she has no feathers on her back & I worry about her getting cut up or cold...so she will live in hers....I have an extra one for her so when hers is dirty I can take it off & wash it but she will be protected with the other one....She was given to me by a friend who has over 75 chickens & just didn't have the time to tend to her....she is now doing well & at first walked backwards in it until she got used to it....
As for the chasity idea I am all for it!!!! I have tried to figure out a way to keep my hens pure at heart from some of the big roosters who just don't get that big nails may not excite certain hens....yes too much time on my hands as well Nance! but if you have ever seen an egg shoot across the room from a big rooster nailing a hen...ok yes its funny but my poor hen was in shock as she ran over to the egg...poor thing I had to pick her up & hide her head as I cleaned up the broken egg. And being the tipical male he never came over to comfort her or tell her he was sorry...he was already eye-ing the other hens.....

just think you could make out fits and dress up the chickens, like the city chic with fancy dancy dress, the country with the country apron, you could sew lace, ribbons, beads (well maybe not beads, the other chics would eat them) summer, winter, spring, fall outfits. ROFL
My chics are banties and the rooster is pretty nice, they all have thier feathers. you see there used to be 2 roosters, but the other one was mean ,so now rooster happen to see what happen the one other rooster so he must have decided to be nice, which he is
OK im out of here.shirley

I made some of the ones in the Storey Guide and they work, and are easy, just use strong needles or you will go through several.

I have several bald chickens, because I like a dummy bought 5 rooster chicks when we got our farm and 16 chickens. The thing is I really like my roosters. But, I'm afraid they not only need the chicken saddle, but also bonnets to protect their heads too. Penguin takes the girls by their head feathers and holds onto them, while Samson has some fun. I swear these two roosters work together. Mutt and Jeff we also call them. Penquin is a little black bantie rooster, Samson is a huge white Orpington rooster. They have been best friends since they were little chicks.

How funny is that?? I haven't ever heard of/seen a chicken saddle before. It sure would do the trick, though. Our rooster has two favorite ladies and has torn out all their back feathers so they are bare-skinned now.

This is too funny! I have this vision of two "poultry parents" asking their teenage chick where she is going on this Saturday night (she is wearing a saddle by the way)....."Oh, just out with the girls", and the father says "Right! Back in the coop!" Ok, so maybe it isn't funny; maybe I'll go lie down for a bit! Hugs to all, Nance

A saddle is to protect the hen from the roosters claws when mating. Although I suppose you could let your hen's wear one on a special occasion. I know my girlfriends would get a kick out of it if they were greeted by some dolled up chicks!

Cute picture. Please explain why your chicken would need to wear an apron??? I want to get some chickens, but I think I need to learn a little more before I do! Bald chickens? Chieck aprons? It's a whole new world!!!

In "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" there is a real easy pattern. If I had a fax machine I would copy and send it to you. Maybe you could go to a local book store and look through the book and write down the stuff you need. If not let me know and I will try and help you out. I really need to make some of these for my girls too. You would think with 1 Roo and 15 Hens, I wouldn't have any bald hens.
