Just wanted to share an idea with all of you.

My youngest daughter wanted to do something special for her neice's 1st birthday. She found a Simplicity pattern - #4993 - which is a rag quilt wall hanging or throw. The pattern has three styles - a cat, dog, or bear. She was trying to decide what king of fabric to use for it when I found that her sister was going through baby items to give away and there was the stack of receiving blankets. I asked if I could have them - she really didn't want to get rid of them, but I promised that she would like what they were going to be used for. The youngest daughter used the receiving blankets to make the cat style quilt! My oldest daughter was in tears when the birthday present was opened and she spotted the blanket her daughter was brought home from the hospital in and the blanket that came from a great-grandma.

Soooo, think twice before givng those receiving blankets away! They can be turned into some cherished quilts for both mom and child.
