I had a week with no Internet and used it to get out the craft books and learn some new tricks. My Stitching Room book got here too and I sat down to get started on embroidery first. I knew cross stitch but apart from that.... nada. It took me a while to get the hang of it but I finished a cute little sampler and had great fun. I was able to find everything I needed in my mothers cross stitch supplies.
Then I decided to give crochet another chance. I crochet badly and never liked it much but I was determined to start again. So I sat down with an audiobook and worked, frogged, worked, frogged until it finally looked like I wanted it to. I completed a lovely round washcloth and then sat my mum down to show her some stitches. We had a great afternoon. And I am really glad to have tried two new crafts.

Nadine is Farmgirl Sister #262 (the only one in Europe so far!) and she blogs at http://nadsknittingblog.blogspot.com/ and knits on Ravelry as Nadknitblog and on Plurk she is NadKnitBlog too!

Nadine
Ya know when I learned to do crochet.; I learned from my dear deceased grandmother. ( My MOm's Mom)
You don't know the number of times that I had to " un raverale"
as was Grannie's term.
at lest it was easy than taking stitches out of sewing !!
She and my Mom taught me to emboridery when I was a young girl about 7 or 8
I took the love of needlework from Mom's mom
None of Grannie's girls were ever crazy over crocheting , embroidery and quilting and sewing like Gran and me.
I have Grannie's old fashioned sewing machine going into our new home.
it is now being stored at my Mother-in-laws' home.
I am glad you never gave it up. and taught your Mum some new stitches
My gran couldn't read crochet
She was taught by someone she knew and then she would show me new stitche, ha
