pillow inserts. I am making pillow covers for the porch out of some old towels but need the inserts to be waterproof, so they dry quick and do not spoil or mildew. Any ideas???

You could buy waterproofing in a spray can.

I like the picnic table cloth idea. My only suggestion to add to that would be to get some of the stuff you use on tent seams to waterproof them and put it on where you seam up your cushions. Otherwise I am sure water may seep in.

Well, I'm a wool girl through and through and love my wool stuffed pillows but I make a batting out of it first so it's all lofty and and just like the cotton batting. For outdoor use, I am not sure what to think. Bubble wrap sounds interesting and another thought would be the plastic grocery bags? Now there's a recycle for ya.

I just read an idea in Family Fun magazine this past month for making a pillow out of bubble wrap!! The bigger bubbles. It was "sealed" with clear packing tape. I wonder if that would work for you. The bigger ones wouldn't pop so easily and would for sure be waterproof. Different, right?

Heat N Bond makes a clear iron-on protective vinyl that would work but the vinyl tablecloth idea might be cheaper that frannie mentioned. What I like about the Head N Bond is that you can iron it onto any fabric and the fabric shows through. For the pillow form inside your towel material, it might be best to use the tablecloth since you're not going to see the form anyhow. Another idea might be to use a shower curtain liner ($3-$4).

hi heather, you could make them out of the old "plastic" table clothes that have that fabric backing. i think that fabric would sew. also, alot of the dimestores , walmart and joann's has that plastic in rolls that comes in various thicknesses and can be sewn. i would try first to go to a thrift/seconhand store and see what kind of table clothes they have, but thats just what i do, go to second hand stores and look at the stuff as yard goods.
also you can buy very interesting "oilcloth" that is not really oilcloth from folks, if you go to roundtop/marburger, there is at least one fellow there that has a booth and sells oilcloth that is really interesting for that kind of project he is usually set up at warrenton.
but hobby lobby and joanns may also sell, "oilcloth".
