Alright girls here I go. My sis-in-law (a widower) is getting married in early October. I was so happy for her....how wonderful that after almost ten years she found someone who makes her happy again. Then, she dropped the bomb..."I want you to make my wedding dress"...yikes! Did she say October? Did she mean of next year? I said, "of course I'll make your dress".I mean, this is her second wedding and she already said she wanted everyone "casual". Ummm, everyone but her...she is getting married in a CIVIL WAR BALLGOWN. Yes, you know, with the hoops and stays and corsets and lace and oh my goodness. I have no idea why I am sitting here at the computer, the sewing machine is calling my name it's telling me that it is almost August and then September and then oh yes October.Sis-in-law brought the material over last night that we had ordered. It is so beautiful I told she was going to be the most beautiful bride. She said thanks and that she was thinking maybe WE should make her maid-of-honor dress as well, and lets not forget the flower girl....I said "of course". I think I need a mental examination...oh yea, I don't have time I have to get sewing!!!!!Hee! Hee! Later Ladies, Pam.

Let's dance in the rain and play in the puddles under the rainbows.

Oh wow! Good luck on the dress Pam. It sounds like it will be beautiful! I can't wait to see some pictures! My favorite period clothing is from the 16th century...I'm actually pretty obsessed!

Thanks girls. I made a mock up of the top of her dress,I want it to fit perfectly of course. My sis-in-law called yesterday and wanted to know how much I had got done. She doesn't sew, and has no idea of the work involved. Luckily for me she already has many of the undergarments.(She goes to alot of reenactments.)Funny thing about the pattern...she bought the pattern years ago and said it would be her dream wedding dress. I will post pictures as soon as I learn how. My daughter has promised a quick lesson or two. I almost forgot to mention that the dress is antique gold with tea-dyed lace over top.....beautiful material.Well, back to sewing. Happy stitching! Pam

Oh my, you are going to have an adventure! I'll be looking for some pictures. Do you have anyone to help you with all these things or are you one of those girls who can make anything and a friend always says "Oh you can make that, you can make anything"? I've made several wedding dresses years ago, back in my old hippie days, they weren;t so elaborate, but it was fun. I would need about a two year alert at this point in my life. Good luck!

Good luck Pam! I'm sure it will turn out beautiful! If you have any questions head over the forum on sensibility.com, it's a historic costuming board I'm on. The ladies over there are excellent historic sewists and very helpful. Do you have all your patterns sorted out? If not, I can point you in some good directions...

I'm working on a hand-stitched regency gown right now, out of an old sheet of all things!

Happy Sewing :)
