well, i cant believe i finally did it!
some of you may know that i have wanted to learn to spin, just a fantasy i have been carrying around for probably close to 20 years.
anyway, it all finally came together.
i bought a used kromski spinning wheel from a gal here at the site, probably 2-3 years ago.
i tried one teacher in dallas, but that didnt work out.
then i finally tried a teacher that is about 30 minutes away at appleleef farms in van alstyne texas and have completed my beginning classes and my first skein of yarn.
i really learned alot and now feel like i am able to begin learning about apinning.
i am no longer afraid of my wheel.(it actually needed some work and had a small part missing, but who knew, i didnt know enough about it to know!)
i actually understand what makes the wheel work now and how to proceed on with acquiring more skill as a spinner.
my teacher has spin days 1 saturday a month where we can gather and spin with other spinners, kinda like a farmgirl version of golf saturdays!
i am so happy and just wanted to say thanks to all who have encouraged me to hang in there...aunt jenny, sherri, etc.
...and to let you know anything is possible even if it does take 20 + years!

Frannie,
Good for you!!! Another whole world of new things to do now. You are so talented and creative you will be making all kinds of good stuff. Of course we must see pictures. What a nice thing to be able to do. There are not that many spinners out there . Have someone take a picture of you at the wheel, I would love to see it.

frannie, when I first began spinning I had an experienced spinning friend tell me..."oh, it's so pretty" (my yarn)..."save this forever, you'll never be able to spin yarn like this again." Well, let's be honest...I was wanting my yarn to look like hers and was quite humbled by seeing her yarn compared to mine! But in retrospect, I know now exactly what she meant. It was lumpy and uneven but it was so "primitive" and cool looking. I haven't been able to duplicate that yarn since.

So, I am here to tell you to enjoy your beautiful first yarns..keep a bit in a skein just to handle once in a while and see how far you've come. Enjoy.

Frannie,
I hadnt seen the news about Tim Russert until later last night. How sad. He was one of our favorites as well.It reminded me that we just NEVER know. And we have to embrace life/

carole sue, i love your poem, too cute!
yes, i guess i am living proof that you can teach an old....lady new tricks.
i am usually such a do it yourself kinda gal and i think sometimes i put too much stock in that. so i really needed to learn to spin and to learn that i sometimes need a teacher.
and my teacher was really a good one. i am so hooked.
anyway, i had to share this here cause over the last years in various post i have had encouragement and pushing from the various farmgirl sisters here, in particular aunt jenny, who i feel is always such a positive influence on every one, and sherri who tried her best to keep me going on this, but it wasnt gonna happen until my wheel got set up properly and i didnt even know enough to know that it wasnt.
anyway, i dont think this means i am gonna give up my scrap crafting or my bunnies, but it does seem to mean that i can start weaving again, cause i have my own yarn to weave with. yippee.
i will keep ya posted. and really thanks to everyone who has been pullin for me.

Frannie,
A spinning you will go
A spinning you will go
Hi Ho the dairy oh
A spinning you will go.

What a delight to learn something you have wanted to for a long time and besides that you "get" it. Now how grand is that.

first, thanks to all for your congrats, and aunt jenny i have felt ya pullin for me all this time.
lets celebrate and have a cookie....i just laugh every time i read your signature, cause i have that same skinny woman inside me!
rene, i am so happy for your great day and it made me smile. i have had one of those days that i truthfully can say i am glad it is over and tomorrow will be better.
then of course, to top it off i heard the news about tim russert who i really love. he just seems to me kinda like a regular guy, and i think he has always worn his passion and love on his sleeve.
so the day had a sad feeling to me, but i am so glad to hear that one of our farmgirls had such a great day, and i have to say it has helped to lift me up.

It is always such a sense of accomplishment when we move towards our goals isnt it? Great Job Frannie! This is a great day for me. My hubby and I drove over to the coast of Oregon to surprise our son who is in the Coast Guard. He is on the US Coast Guard Tall Ship EAGLE and they docked in Astoria. It has been since bfore the holidays that we have seen him.. SO this was/is a great day!

thanks, betty i want to spin forever, and now i feel it is a possibility.
tried to teach myself, but there is so much to understand at first and of course, the spinning wheel has to be set up right, which mine really wasnt.
anyway, i have alot of things to entertain myself with here at the farm, some might call it work, i prefer to call it play.
and now i think i can add spinning. yippeee!

Frannie, when you said you wanted to learn to spin all I could think of was that toy "Sit n' Spin" that my kids used years and years ago. You sat on a disc and there was a wheel that spun you around and around. They had such fun. LOL

Now that I know what you are talking about, Congratulations. I do not think that Spinning is an easy thing to do. I watch the ladies at our county fair (and it is so hot outside) spinning away with their wool and other fibers. It is indeed a talent. Keep on learning, because there is probably no end to it!

I bet that's true, Frannie. I think medications play a great role in how we "feel" and "act". And, like most men, I bet he doesn't like to be labelled as "having something"....I know my daddy was meaner than a rattlesnake when he found out he had prostate cancer! Men sortof feel helpless....but you're right-he still can't come into your workspace and grump. If you acknowledge it, it will feed it for sure!!!!

Give him a project--something that takes him OUTSIDE, and maybe down the road or into another county :)

that sounds wonderful.
dh is home today, its part of his schedule, every other friday off.
he is already acting grumpy though.
i dont know if he realizes that this is my work place and he doesnt have the right to come in here and be a grump***. usually if i just ignore it , he kinda corrects it, cause he is not generally the morose type.
he has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and is on medication, and i attribute the grmpiness to his blood sugar and the fact that for the first time in his life, even though he has had health issues in the past, in this case he is having a harder time "getting over it".

I bet so!!! I'm doing just fine--so glad it's Friday, though. This week has been especially long for whatever reason. Looking forward to a weekend where I do what I want to :)

Jus is working a double, so I'll have the night to myself to clean the house, and then Saturday and Sunday are MINE!!!!!

Congrats, Frannie!!! How exciting for you--now think of ALL the OTHER things you can create. It's wonderful to have new "tools" to engage our imaginations.

Proud of you!
