Does anyone make their own potholders?

I got a kit from fabricdepot for the heart shaped potholders in "coffee" fabric. I love the fabric...not so keen on the way I completed the potholders.... :( I don't like to do binding. Never have. It always comes out messy for me! I did make one in the shape of a tube that I just slip on to the handle of my cast iron pan. That's pretty handy!

Hmm, I may have to try some for christmas this year. You all have me a bit excited at the prospect of potholders!

I like crocheting potholders. They work up fast and some of the vintage kitschy patterns are really fun (cowboy boots, granny panties, etc.)

What a good way to reuse old wool sweaters (especially outgrown kids)! Why not felt them and then cut potholders out of them? You could stitch a little loop for hanging out of grosgrain or crochet a border for it....*wheels are turning...*

Hello Susie! I do make my own potholders! Handmade ones hold up so much nicer and are so pretty! I have been making them a little over a year now....since I joined MaryJane's Farm!!!!

I love the crochet ones called the magic potholder. I actually make it bigger for trivet on the dinning table and counter. You can google it and find the pattern. HAVE FUN!

You could go to JoAnn's or one of your craft stores
There are some books with potholders in them
you could go to the quilting section.
They have some potholder books
Some are really easy to sew.
also , go to the crochet and knitting books they have some there

I was going to make some knitted squares,
using the peaches and creme and the sugar and cream
I need to test them first
I don't know if you need a backing or not
Some of the cotton yarn may not be enough to keep from buring you hand when getting things out of the oven
I think JoAnn's sells the stuff that goes on the back for that ; but I forget to look for it every time I go.

Angie, I am interested in simple cute ideas for potholders. I do sew a little so would need some cute ideas but not real complicated. Thanks

OOh I bet a wool felted potholder is great. Never thought of doing that. Wool is such a wonderful thing to work with, please post a picture some time. I just love hand made potholders. Karin

I've made a couple simply by accident really.. out of pieces of quilting bits that were left over.. so I decided to finish them up into a Pot holder!
& they seem to surprise me into the nicest little Pot holders! i don't even want to use them! Last Year Jess (Smoothie Juice) sent me such an adorable handmade Pot Holder too.. it was heart Shaped.. & was Glove Fittet.. really awesome..! But you know who makes the most absolute BEST Pot Holders/ Is Karin..(Electricdunce) UNBELIEVABLE! She has them on her Etsy site.. But she does the most amazing little quilted Pot Holders!! I bet she'll pop in here.. She's A Huge Pot Holder Fan.. She & I both Colect old Crocheted ones too!

I make potholders all the time. I love them, because aI can actually finish them. Usually I just make scrappy ones with leftover fabric, though I suspect some people might ask me if the "s" is silent in scrappy. I love crocheted ones and I'm going to try to make one soon, I can't knit any more - carpal tunnel, etc. but I think I can still crochet. Put up some pictures for inspiration please, all you talented girls...Karin

I make my own potholders too. I just crochet regular square dishcloths and then single crochet them together around the edges.

Debi's right .... the swap last winter was a winner in my book!
She did a great job organizing it & the potholders are awesome. I made an extra pair for myself that matched the ones I sent off. They are so quick & fun to make!

Betty, I love quilts and wish that I could make them. I have about 5 that I have gotten over the years. I can sew a little - enough to get me by but nothing fancy.

I've made a couple, but quilts are more my style. I also make table runners.
