Okay, so I know I must have done something wrong. I caught the tea staining bug and decided to try and tea stain one of my doilies. I brewed the tea soaked the doily. Rinsed it out and let it hang. It turned out terrible. Are the edges supposed to look like someone lit it on fire? The middle is still white. I think my tea was defective or something. Any ideas?

Thanks ladies. I will try and redye it. The stitch is really tight on the doily. Would that make a difference. I didn't lay it flat to stain it. I actually kinda wadded it up so it would all fit in the bowl. I let the tea steep for a really long time. I guess I must have done it all wrong. I did rinse it out really good though. Will have to give it another go.If it doesn't work, I guess I'll pass it on to someone who knows what they're doing.:)

If you take the doily and wash it in warm soapy water first, then you can re-tea-dye it. Just make sure you rinse it really good in cool water after you've washed it. Sounds like it has some sizing or something like it in the fibers. Good Luck.

Let's dance in the rain and play in the puddles under the rainbows.

souds like all the tea ran to the edges.
I'd try it again but I'd let it soak in the tea overnight, then just take it out and lay it to dry in the sun flat.

Did you lay it in flat as you could so the area soaks evenly? I don't know anything about tea staining but that is how I would do it. Hope you figure it out!!
