I found this site and absolutly LOVE this idea. Not only are they adorable but you get to be earth friendly and repurpose something.

I am going to the thrift store during lunch to see if there is a shirt or two I could use for my granddaughters!

I LOVE this idea and have a couple started. I found some XXL shirts at a yard sale that will be long enough easily for my almost 8 year old too. My girls love wearing dresses in the summer heat!

there are BAGS of clothes in my closet waiting to go to the thrift store. i am going to have to sort them again before i drop them off. robins bit of advice is so great. i don't have a lot of time to sew lately, but with some recycling i could whip up some great summer threads for my baby bugs. they always look so much sweeter when i dress them myself.

I am soooo glad I saw this topic! I love the dress. I would have never thought of something so creative. The little girl does look like a model in a catalog! Precious. I will certainly look at shirts in a new way now.

We had a Great one a while back on repurposing a mans Shirt into an Apron.. Aunt George was the Queen of Repurposing! & she had THE BEST Pattern for it.. It's actually on the FIRST Apron thread if anyone wants to realy dig deep to look for it.. But SO worth it!

Thanks Tamara for this Dress info! & Site!

Thanks for sharing. That sundress is lovely. My daughter is 10.5. I could easily adapt this into a shirt for her. I'll need to raid my husband's closet for some material.

That is so cute. Unfortunately, I no longer have toddler girls to sew for. However, whe nthe time comes for granddaughters, God willing, I will do this. My husband very rarely wears his button down shirts, and I would love to recycle them so well.

I liked the site in general. Thank you for the link.

That is DARLING! My SIL tried one of the 'mens shirt into dress' patterns, and it was not nearly so cute. Love this one!

Great idea, Robin! I hadn't thought of that. Can't wait to try some out, I have *tons* of clothes laying around that won't fit or are unwearable for my kiddos.

While we are on the subject of recycling, I want to enthuse on the practice of re-purposing clothes!!! And not just because it's easy on the environment or your pocketbook:

I'm making a dress for my daughter right now and it's taking me FOREVER (it's a complicated pattern). I was chatting with someone last night about the time I'm investing and remembering that last year I made her entire summer wardrobe in a week! What happened?

Well -- last year I made her clothes entirely from repurposed fabrics, and I re-used hems/princess seams/button plackets/zippers/trims from those garments. Everything went together lightning fast because I basically only sewed side seams and attached bodices to skirts.

Yay for recycling!

Best,

Robin

I know I could not believe how simple it was to make too. I can usually pick up shirts for .25 - 1.00 . A little trim and your good to go!
