I am going to make this for a friend who is going to have a baby in July! What a great alternative to the highly suspect "feel and learn" toys that you can get at big box stores!

How fun! I did a small blanket for my last baby, kind of the same idea. Different width/ length ribbon loops ever 2 inches around the edges, and then patched the 'blanket' part out of chenille and faux fur. She absolutely loves it! I hadn't thought of doing a whole mat, though. That's all stuff I have crammed in my closet already, anyway! Good idea!
