My daughter is getting married in November. We are paying for the wedding and I am trying to come up with nice, unique, but not to pricy ideas for wedding shower gift. I will be going to three..one idea I have been toying with is a reuse, recycle, environmentally theme. So far I am thinking along the line of homemade clothespin bag with line; sewing some market bags; knitting washclothes and dishclothes; sewing apron and pincushion. I would appreciate any ideas to fill out my theme. I am good at sewing and fair at knitting. Can do counted cross stitch and smocking (that will be for a future baby shower hope, hope).
My second idea is a Christmas theme. I have a book with a counted cross stitch sleigh with santa and eight seperate reindeer then connected with gold cord for a shelve decoration. Thought with that I could do some handmade ornaments. I have about 90 yards of assorted vintage style Christmas material (hit a 90% off sale couple of years ago, so could sew up something; table runners? placemats?
Do you think that these ideas sound to chincy for a mother of the bride gift?
Oh also I am a garage saler and rummager. So I could be looking for things there to fit in with the themes also. I am definitely going to look for antique type ornaments and decorations, my daughter and I are both big lovers of old style Christmas decorations, and luckily she appreciates reused items.
Thanks for any ideas.

handmade cloth napkins and placemats are always nice..you would know the colors she prefers. I loved getting a nice used picnic basket with a checkered homemade tablecloth and napkins and plastic picnic ware as a gift when husband and I got married.
If you go with the Christmas theme..one of the things I give as wedding gifts that are near Christmas is a plain tablecloth and instructions to make a tradition..
On their first Christmas together they have everyone that comes to their home on Christmas sign with ball point pen the tablecloth. AFter the holiday you embroider over all the names (the ballpoint pen does wash out..I have 12 years worth of names on mine now) in the same color floss for that year. (I usually include two skeins of floss in red or green for that first year and a needle and hoop) and you write the year on the edge as a key..and embroider it in that color. No one needs to write the year. I have mother's sign it for babies and I have children put their age in their own writing. It is just fun. I will post a picture of mine taken a few years ago. You do a different color each year and it fills up with memories.

Those sound like wonderful ideas :) One thing we received that I loved because they were hand-embroidered and so personal were his n' hers pillowcases with Mr. & Mrs. and our last name on them. I used to put them on top of the covers just so I could walk by and see the pillow with my Mrs. married name on it :)
