ladies,
Would anyone be interested in doing a "jar" block swap?? Fill your jars with fruits or veggies.
These would be an 8 1/2 X 12 1/2 inch block. (8X12 after sewn into a quilt)
If enough are interested I will make a sign up sheet and a due date of May 31st.
Send all your blocks to me along with a self address stamped envelope with the same amount of postage used to mail your blocks. Email me and I will give you my home address.
I would like at least 9 people. That would make a nice wall hanging. But if more join that would be great! http://quilting.about.com/od/blockofthemonth/ss/tal_jar_quilt.htm

Since it is a free pattern I think it would be ok if I were to copy and past the directions right here.
Black fabric
two 2" x 8-1/2" strips for block top and bottom
two 2" x 8" strips for block sides
four 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares for corners of jar body
two 2" x 3" strips for jar lid unit
Brown or your choice of fabric for jar lid
one 2" x 3-1/2" strip for jar cap
Fruit or vegetable print fabric contents of jar
one 5-1/2" x 8" piece
Use a 1/4" seam allowance to assemble the quilt block, placing units right sides together for sewing and matching raw edges carefully. Use straight pins to hold patches together if it helps you keep them aligned.
1.Make the tall jar body by sewing a small black square to each corner of the bug jar novelty print. Just like you would when making snowball blocks. Trim off the corners.
2.Sew a 2" x 8" green strip to each long side of the jar body. Press seam allowances towards the outer strips.
3.Sew a 2" x 8-1/2" black strip to the bottom of the Step 2 unit.
4.Sew a short black strip to each side of the jar lid strip. Press seam allowance towards the jar lid fabric.
5.Sew a 2" x 8-1/2" black strip lengthwise to the top of the jar lid unit. Press seam allowance towards the top strip.
6.Sew the top/lid unit to the top of the jar quilt block. Press seam allowance towards the jar lid unit.
Your completed jar block should measure 8-1/2" x 12-1/2". If your block is smaller than it should be, or skewed, press again and recheck.
Last day for sign up will be April 6, 2008

Hey Kathy, just got em...they are fab you guys..i just love em. I think I am going to make a bunch more of them if I can find some good fruit or veggie FQs, I had a hard time finding fruit fabric locally. Anyhow, I think I will make a table cloth out of them with the blocks being the 4 sides that hang down.

Jessica,
You should get yours soon. I am so sorry. I messed up!!
I did send a set to California. What a dope! I received a package from her and put the empty envelope in our Jar block pile. That is how I save mailing addresses. As I packaged them I put the address in a note book. Then there was two addresses for Indiana. Would you believe my dog ate it????
Jess just let me know that you have received them. I am thinking by firday july 25th. If you do not get them by friday I will send you mine!
I do not like to make mistakes. Expecially when it effects others.
Eveyone one worked so hard on these blocks.

Ladies,
I just got back from a week of fun filled sewing with my American Sewing Guild. Our national meeting was in Chicago this year. My sister and I drove. We only stopped for gas and to pee. It took us about 12 hours and 32 gallons of gas to get there. What a trip.

Now...it appears that I may have mailed blocks to the wrong person.
So I need to know that you have received your blocks! Jessica, I think I sent your blocks to Cheryl in CA.
Please let me know ASAP if you have or havenot received your blocks!

Thank you

Hi, Everyone!
I got my blocks yesterday! I looooove them! Everyone did such a great job! Are you all master quilters? I love the black on black prints that some people used for their borders! I am so excited I can't wait to put this together. I hope next week is a slow week for me, I really want to do this. I wonder if this will fit a toddler bed??? Thanks everybody! This was so worth my frustration at the beginning of trying to figure this out! I love them!

Jessica,
I hope everything is ok.

Ladies,
I have sorted and mailed out all the blocks. Those that enclosed self addressed postaged paid return envelope were mailed out Saturday. I dropped them in the box.
ALL the others were mailed this morning because I needed to get the correct postage on them at the post office.
Please let me know when you all receive them.
I hope everyone had as much fun as I did making these blocks. They will make a nice wall hanging.
I will be away for a week but when I return I will work on my wall hanging. I have an idea floating around in my head on how to put these blocks together. I am thinking a two inch sashing. As soon as I am done I will post a photo. I hope you all do the same.
Have a great week!

Oh goody!! I cant wait to get my blocks!!!

My hubby just bought a new motorcycle- really is a savings on gas- we grew up riding everywhere on bikes- both of us lived far from town and it was a fun ONLY option as teens and young folks. We were good kids but very dangerous- never did let my kids have a mc because we didnt want them to do what we did!!

Much safer now!!!

Blessings,

I have received the last set of blocks.
I will sort all the blocks and mail them on Saturday!
I wish you all a safe and Happy 4th!

The whether has been so nice that I rode my motorcycle in yesterday and today.
2 1/2 gallons worth of gas to go over 100 miles so far. ($10.00 not to bad!) If I didn't have to take the highway all the time I would ride in to work more often.

What a nightmare, hopefully no one was hurt, probably just a bunch of kids runnin inthe nights makin trouble.

I was looking at the list of blocks received, and I was wondering...it looks like you are waiting on 2 sets, mine and Sarah's(scgwagner), but I think you already have Sarah's, I believe they were jars of grapes, so I guess you are just waitin on mine which you should have anyday...are my observations correct?

Ok all is somewhat well here in new jersey.
First. My husband needed laser treatment on his eyes this past Monday. Because of years of not taking care of his sugar, his has some blood vessals in his eyes that needed zapping. No worries, all is well.
Second, last night we put about 20 gallons of used motor oil to the curb for pickup by the township. Well some knuckle head hit three containers, these were gallon and a half laundry soap containers. The road and sidewalk were a mess. OH MY GOODNESS!!! We don't know who hit them. If it was done on purpose. If the driver was drunk, but it was one heck of a mess. We needed to call the police. They called the fire department. Now mind you it is 6:45 in the morning. My daughter just got home from work, (she works night at Bed Bath and Beyond, redecorating one of the stores) I have my coffee in hand and heading out the door for work. My husband is still in bed. (lucky duck works less then 10 miles from home and does not need to be in untill 9:00)Like I said, we call the police. Jeff is up now, does not no what to do first. Oh brother...
So along comes this fireman in a pickup truck. No shirt on! I kind you not. I was waiting for the camara men from "Cops" to show up: "Bad boys, bad boys, what cha gonna do...??"
So did anything exciting happen with any of you ladies????
Oh, I received Marcia and Vickies blocks!
Thank you. Waiting on two more sets!
These are going to make a very cute wall hanging! I think you will all agree when you get them.

Ladies, I have a few minor issues going on at home.
Nothing life threatening. Just a little annoying and time consuming.
I received two packages this week. They both are great. I love the choice of fabrics.
I will post the names later today or tomorrow.
Looks like I need two more and I will be ready to swap. Maybe they will be in the mail when I get home.
Ta ta for now....
