Posted - Mar 24 2008 : 12:41:50 PM Hey Linda,
For the valance the doilies with open areas work the best...Use a tree branch, curtain rod or string, ribbon, whatever and clip the valances right to it. You can also overlap the doilies as you clip them on so there are no gaps showing....or
weave the doilies onto the rod or branch until it is full enough then hang the branch up over the window...
When I had my cottage I used Crepe Myrtle tree branches for my curtain rods...I took branches that had other branches growing off of it and cut them to create a "v" shape and that became my branch holders..I screwed them to the wall..Hope that made sense..LOL
Mary Jane...can't wait to see the new magazine since I've been on the group for almost a year now it will be especially interesting to see who is featured and all the couture ideas you are launching.
I have been adding doilies and embroidered linens to clothing for a long time. I've got a Linen tunic that I made that I attached an embroidered vanity piece to the back. It always received compliments since it was so different. Doilies look great attached to blue jeans and just about anything for that matter.
Been collecting this stuff for 25+ years..LOL It's really nice seeing all these uses of the vintage fabrics and embrodery come back into popularity. Recycling, repurposing and rebirths are wonderful!!It's always been popular with me....I think I was born in the wrong time since I will buy a piece of vintage fabric or embroidery as first choice over a new piece!
Talk to ya later, Stephanie |

Posted - Mar 24 2008 : 06:22:44 AM Hi girls, We're so busy getting our next magazine done (it's due to the printer later this week so in the next few days we're just double checking everything), I haven't had a minute to post on this topic but doilies are fully covered in our next issue. Stay tuned. It'll be out the end of April. You'll see uses for doilies you've never thought of before as well as uses for antique table and dresser linens. In the meantime, start collecting them so you can doily up your boudoir and body! Frilly farmgirl fashion is about to hit the newsstands.

Posted - Mar 24 2008 : 12:36:11 AM Make window valances by attaching them with clothes pins to a piece of ribbon or jute and tack it on each of the window....attach the doilies with a few stitches and make a cafe curtain or a full curtain if you have enough of them. Cover the backs and arms of your chairs and sofa. Decoupage them to a table, a cabinet, a piece of tile or wood and hang on the wall. Attach to your shower curtain rings to dress up your bathroom. On and on and on...so fun to collect them!

Posted - Mar 23 2008 : 04:36:00 AM I saw on Martha one day that she took a stiffner meduim, and made baskets with doilies. She got the stiffner on them, and laid them over an upside down bowl. Really turned out cute.

Posted - Mar 20 2008 : 10:59:26 AM You can make tea covers ( a small sheer napkin that you lay across the top of your iced tea while you are sipping it in the sun, to keep flys and bugs out) You just embroidery whatever kind of decorative stitching you want and then stitch a few heavy beads around the edge of the doily to keep it weighted down. You can also make larger ones to put over food or large pitchers. Im actually on the lookout for more doileys so I can make some myself! happy stitching!

Posted - Mar 20 2008 : 10:08:28 AM you can use them to embellish toss pillows. you can use smaller ones folded in half as apron pockets you can frame some of them of course they are great up under lamps and vases I hang one over the large towel in my bathroom as an accent I also set them under potted plants that are in my kitchen(that do not leak or have holes in the container)

Posted - Mar 20 2008 : 07:40:26 AM If you have some small doilies, one thing I like to do with them is make a quilt, alternating a cottong square with a chenille square and applique the doily on the cotton squares. Hard to imagine but looks very charming.
