Hello!!!! I was wondering if anyone has a fast easy way to cut YoYo's. I want to make some dolls and other things but hate sitting and cutting them. Also do any of you sew them by machine instead of hand. I love by hand but think machine might be faster. Thanks for the info.

I cut 6 or so out by hand at a time. Regular scissors...I am downright dangerous with the rotary cutter on curves!! I use a CD to trace for them for the size I have used the most. I sew them by hand too. Havn't done any lately...but I should.

I just made a couple on the machine. I think that I would want to use them with a button in the middle or something.

I don't think I would do them on the machine as the hole in the middle sounds like it would be huge the stitches used for making yoyos are large very large to say the least. When you use little stitches you get a bigger hole big stitches a little whole I know that sounds odd bu that is how it works. I have yet to see a machine with a 1/2 inch to 1 inch long stitch. So it could probably be done but not with the results I would want. But try it and show us would love to see how it comes out. As for the clover tool my daughter loves them uncoordinated fingers of a child it helps and makes it easy. For me they are a hindrance I can make them so much faster by hand ( the round ones that is. For hearts ( if I am not using pennys patterns) I use a clover tool same goes for flowers but I don't have a problem with hand work my hand just remember what to do and I don't usually even think about it.

Hi Betty Jo! I cut all my yo yo's by hand and they seem to not take to long to cut several out in no time. I hand sew mine. I have never heard of them being done on a sewing machine. Wonder how they turn out? Good luck and have fun with your yo yo projects!

I have one of those Clover yoyo makers and I HATE it, I fund I can sew it much more quickly by hand. I don;t think you can get a big enough stitch on the machine, you have to use pretty large stitches or the opening you get in the middle is too big. Karin

I hold about 10 layers of fabric in my hand no tracing. lay the cd on top of it and hold fabric and cd as I turn the cd I cut out (use sharp scissors) That way I get 10 cut in the less time than it took to trace 1 and cut it out...

Sorry not on much these days I work between 30 and 36 hours a week now and still commute 4 hours a day keeps me kind of busy and exhausted. The bosses seem to like me. I am hoping so they promised that if I was a real good worker and better than they expected I would get a raise on my first paycheck and they would retro it to my first day of work. So far every day they have been surprised and praised my design skills so I am hopeful. First paycheck is still a few weeks out.

I hate cutting them with a rotary cutter for some reason, but if you got used to it, it would probably go fast. Debra's right though, the Clover yoyo makers make them a lot faster because you don't have to precut. You just put your fabric in the maker and cut around it, leaving about 1/4". That's the way to go to make them quickly, I think.

back when I was in home ec class my project at the end of the course was to create a yo yo clown doll. I simply used a regular stitch on the machine and did not reverse stitch, pull up on the thread as you would to create a ruffle and viola! yo-yo's!Simply turn your seam in a tiny bit like you would if you were hand stitching and turning down the outer edge, just hit that round with a open ended stitch and pull the threads on either end..then knot and snip excess thread.
To cut them out faster I would think you could use a cd template and stack your fabric oh..about 3-4 layers thick at the most, and use a hand held rotary cutter.

I got a yo yo maker by clover and it cut my yo you making time in half. I filled up a small shoe box full of yo yo's while watching a movie! and you don't have to precut.
