Posted - Mar 11 2008 : 5:45:50 PM Just to let you all know, if you haven't tried re-caning a caned-seat chair, it's not too hard. Really quite easy, just have to pay attention. My sister and I have each done several while we had infants and toddlers at home with us so, as you can see, it IS quite do-able!
You can usually get really nice chairs at yard sales, antique shops, etc. that have had the seats ruined or covered over with wood, etc. Just look on the underside to see if there are holes lining the seat area, and if they're in good condition, you're good to go!
Or. . .the ones which are just a piece of caning put in with spline--even easier!
Really! The toughest part of each is getting the old glue chiseled out! |

Posted - Mar 11 2008 : 9:39:07 PM Hahaha Sheila! I would rather be tourtured than cane a chair seat! My MIL taught me years ago. I did ONE seat and vowed to never do it again! It's right up there with the time I reupolstered my sofa!
I'm glad YOU are enjoying it though!
