Posted - Feb 11 2008 : 04:15:10 AM ok, how many UFO's (unfinished projects)do you have hanging around your sewing/craft table. i read the confession of one knitter yesterday that she had 40 something! since i just moved and weeded out a bunch of mine, i have a rather low count. right off the top of my head i can tell you that i have 6, 5 knitting projects and 1 christmas dress that i hope to finish in time for easter.

Posted - Feb 23 2008 : 4:51:41 PM I hate to admit that I have at least 10 cross stitch projects that I have started and NOT completed for one reason or another. In fact, I started 3 different wedding samplers for my son and daughter in law, and FINALLY finished #3! WOOHOO!! There is a picture on my blog :)

Posted - Feb 23 2008 : 2:15:41 PM I am a chronic finisher!!! I rtesolved to finish projects a few years a go and found it so liberating that I have only 1 quilt that I am starting today, and a couple of number patches that I can work on at night.
Finishing feels good!!!!Except when there isnt a project to do

Posted - Feb 23 2008 : 11:28:49 AM Ok, first of all, I do not have enough fingers or toes to count on as to how many UFO's I have. And like Lea, I am embarassed as to how many unfinished crossstitch projects I have. (or how long they have sat unfinished). Not to mention crochet & sewing projects. I thought that once I retired, I would have all this leisure time to sit & finish them, HA!!! I am busier more now that I am retired (& less structured) and I get myself into more crafting mischief then a sane person would do!. Gotta love it!

Posted - Feb 23 2008 : 07:09:28 AM I'm glad to see I have lots of company here!
I have a quilt that's about 80% completely hand quilted; I have been doing it with a hoop, and am now left with the border, but I chose a very intricate Celtic design which I now regret, but it's too late to change it.
I started a farm sweater for my son when he was 4 or 5; he told me he didn't like it, so there it sits, he's now 19! Maybe I'll finish it for a future grandchild...
There's a gorgeous counted cross stitch that's about 90% done, too. It's very detailed, and hard to work on at night, so I keep dawdling on that one. I started it 10 years ago.
Recently, I learned to crochet, and have an afghan almost finished. Just have to join 54 squares together!
There's a ladies sweater that has about 9 different kinds of yarn going at the same time, like a patchwork with different stitches in each block. I think I started that one 22 years ago! Got the front and back done...
It seems like I get projects finished when they're for other people, but put off the ones for myself! I think we all have a variety of projects on the go, because we get bored doing just one thing, or have days where we feel better at one craft or another.

Posted - Feb 23 2008 : 06:19:10 AM Lea, Good for you!! I know many times I have ripped out knitting projects and put the yarn back in my basket for something else. Takes the guilt away when you have resolved to do something with it, rather then let it lay. NANCY JO

Posted - Feb 23 2008 : 05:58:08 AM I am down to 4 UFOs...that has got to be a record for me! I knitting wise, I have one sweater, one tie, and one scarf in the process. The tie is in my "go bag" so I only work on it in the breakroom at work or while I am reading boring assignments. The sweater is my main project right now. As for #4, that Christmas dress is still hanging on...there are a few things about it I don't like, but the fabric does not like to give up it's stitches so I'm debating rather or not I even want to mess with it.

Posted - Feb 22 2008 : 8:21:18 PM Knitting project UFO's: 1 scarf, 1 hat. Sewing project UFO's: 2 pairs of pants to be hemmed Embroidery projects: 2 Farmgirl badges--sisterhood and bwob's. Embroidery done but they need to be backed, so maybe this should go in sewing. Ok. "see above" Not too bad, but not too good, either.

Posted - Feb 22 2008 : 5:42:49 PM Last year a friend sent me a link to what was called the UFO Challenge 2007. The idea was to get out ALL of your knitted/crocheted UFO's and take the pledge not to start any new projects until the UFO's were completed. The idea was to encourage you to get your projects done instead of leaving them around to "marinate" any longer. Knowing how bad I am at starting projects and never finishing them (I'm a chronic start-aholic) I thought "why not - I need to get these things done." Much to my embarrasment, I had over 30. Many had been marinating for a very long time. I divided them into to groups - those I could finish quickly and those that would need more time. Then I went through both groups and took a serious look at each one to decide do I really want to finish this or am I never going to finish it (because I didn't like it anymore or whatever). Several projects ended up being ripped out, the yarn rewound into a skein and put back in the stash for a future project. That whittled the list down some.
I'm proud to say that I stuck to my resolve and worked on my UFO's all year. Several were finally finished, some are still in progress and I intend to keep working on them until they are ALL done. Now, that's not to say I didn't start anything new - I did start 2 projects - but they were from classes I took and I put them away as soon as I got home so I didn't get sidetracked.
It's very satisfying to finally get something done!! So, maybe that's what this group needs to do - start a UFO challenge. Be honest and list ALL of your UFO's and resolve to spend the rest of 2008 getting them done!
Now - the cross stitch projects - that's a whole 'nother story! Can you spell 50 gallon Rubbermaid tote?

Posted - Feb 11 2008 : 8:47:34 PM I'm sure I have 60+ UFOs including quilts--many tops waiting to be quilted--knitting, crocheting and counted cross-stitch. It could be more than 60. Who knows. I made a list once. Actually my quilt group has been doing a UFO challenge for the past 2 years. That's fun and it gets things finished. And you win prizes.

Posted - Feb 11 2008 : 10:51:02 AM I have about twenty quilt tops , some ready to quilt, others needing a bit more work, I can't knit any more, too much carpal tunnel, etc. so I gave away all my yarns and most of my knitting books years ago. I think the worst UFO I have is a dress I cut out for my daughter when she was two, she's 24 now. I guess that was when I got into quilting again because I seldom so garments except the occasional costume for my kids when they were in plays, Halloween, the occasional Renaissance Fair extravaganza. Hope everyone is warm today, it's brutal here, and high winds to boot. Karin |
