Check out the pincushions that I made from skeins of wool yarn. (blog)
The colored yarn was handspun by Maggie/Prairieland Herbs, and I had gotten it in previous swaps on a soap forum.

hey Bonne, loved your idea so much........ I just made these 3 and they are fresh from the dryer. 2 of the 3 are designated for a couple of my MJ farm pals. Georgette, who lives 20 minutes away from me and Chandra, who is my dishcloth swap buddie.
Here's a pic of the finished project..

Thanks for the link, Bonne! I might have to try this. I used to dye my hair red, but the older I got, the more black my hair kept getting. Now I just want to cover up some of the gray, but didn't want to use chemicals. Your's looks so natural!

whooo hooo!!! Awesome job! The blue one I did is quite small. They mention on that website that you can velcro them to the sewing machine`I might do that with the little one.

yeah! my first felted pinkeep! i adore it! it's not cranberry, i decided that ball wasn't big enough, but the blue is awesome too. the yarn was a bit rough for gloves or a scarf, so this was the perfect solution. i posted a pic on my blog. i think you've started something, bonne, i keep thinking of cool shapes i can knit and then felt into pinkeeps!

LOL!! do it!! I have a yarn winder that winds the skeins into "cakes", but I imagine you can just hand wind it into a ball as well, then smoosh it down when it's wet so that it sits more flat and won't roll away. Just be sure it's secured in the dryer so it doesn't start unravelling. With the smallest one, I wrapped it with some upholstery thread and knotted before tossing in the dryer. The bigger ones I just put into an opaque/sheer knee-hi sock and knotted the end.

Those are too darn cute. Did you just wind the yarn in a ball as usual and then wet, squeeze and dry??
