Posted - Jan 19 2008 : 11:16:08 AM Just finished her today, then I tea stained her and put her in the thrift store frame. Also made a pineapple cake that came out pretty good. So come on over and have a piece and some coffee, or tea. Speaking of tea, better put that on my grocery list since I seem to be tea staining everything in site. NANCY JO

Posted - Jan 19 2008 : 6:39:38 PM She is just lovely, Nancy Jo! You do such nice work.
I have tea dyed both ways. If I tea dye AFTER stitching I just dab the tea around the stitchery so it doesn't get saturated & leave water marks. It works very well but only if you're not doing a sheep or something that you really want to remain a bit whiter. Try it sometime. It mutes the threads a bit and gives it a very nice authentic hue.
Now I'm off to find some cake to eat or something ... look what you've done!

I have always tea-dyed mine after stitching, not sure if before or after makes a difference.

Posted - Jan 19 2008 : 11:59:58 AM Nancy - love your embroidery ----- and there seems to be a good chunk of cake missing! Did it taste good with the tea? :)
In the past, I have tea-stained (and coffe stained) fabric prior to stitching, but when I stained it after, even the floss looked older. I think I like the latter effect better, as long as you have floss that will not run in very hot water.
