Posted - Jan 04 2008 : 8:52:29 PM good luck to you all....i have had friends who have come up with all sorts of cloth tampons, pads, etc...i am happy with cloth diapers, really...and you know i havent had a cycle for 10 yrs until 4 months ago, so staying pregnant is good for avoiding this topic. I just dont know about doing this myself....still thinking. Let us know how your research goes!!! |

Posted - Jan 04 2008 : 3:27:49 PM Mima, you are hilarious!
I have made a few and ordered some organic hemp yarn (nice and soft yarn of course) and am going to make a few off of the pattern I developed. It's similar to the one Libbie provided, but its different in that it is stuffed instead of rolled. I have some nice organic cotton stuffing and it makes a really nice and comfy looking tampon!
I don't use tampons though, so its going to be rough for me to try them out. I am hoping to not have to try them out this month though as we are trying for another babe...so we'll see....if not, I have eco happy friends who I KNOW I can get as testers-free reuseabl tampons in exchange for product research for sure!!
Now, off to more sewing and snapping pads and crocheting some more tampons! LOL!

Posted - Jan 04 2008 : 2:46:33 PM I ..... am also lost for words. I don't think it would ever have occurred to me that someone would think of crocheting a tampon. It's certainly resourceful, I'll give it that.
Me? Too squeamish. I can't even bring myself to experiment with a mooncup.

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 9:12:26 PM if i dared tell anyone i was moving to washable tampons, they would for sure lock me up! they already think that the cloth diaps are going overboard! (wich we just started today) but tampons and tp- they would for sure know i had gone crazy. i think it's a smart plan though. having troubles pledging to change, but i'm still on the milking wagon so i got a couple of mths. to roll this one around.

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 8:25:18 PM I keep revisiting this subject, myself, and I think it's just no viable for me. I'm so "light" with my flow, even at 34, that I can get away with panty liners, and use only 3-4 the whole cycle. I guess it's still a holdover from dancing...like I said, I've tried to think of the viability, but one box of pantiliners lasts me a year!

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 8:18:56 PM You're right Tasha about the health issues. That's what made me give up tampons in the first place. I don't really have any issues with my own blood either, but it really is an original idea - when I mentioned it to my daughters they had never heard of them either.

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 7:45:35 PM i have no issues with my blood, so sqeamish is nothing for me...I can understand if you had a bleeding disorder though. I tend to not like to use anything internal anyway. I am a cloth pad kinda girl, and that also involves hand on with your blood. I think it has a lot to do with my spirit though too.
Also, its not just an environmental thing, its a health thing too. All of the bleaches and plastics involved, men profiting off of women's biology, etc... I can't and won't use products designed by men and sold by men for women.

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 7:30:54 PM that is why I said I am speechless couldn't figure out what to say. I am sure it is great for those with light issue but would never work for a person like me with a bleeding disorder. I would never be able to make enough to stay supplied plus I think I would end up grossing my self out to much too. For the ladies that can more power to them you go girl I just can't see me doing it.

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 7:02:14 PM I understand the environmental benefit of doing this, but I just don't think I could use it. How about you ladies - am I just an old fuddy duddy? Maybe "squeamish" is the word........

Posted - Jan 02 2008 : 1:27:36 PM oh i know about that Rebekka, but the class I am teaching is all about the uses of cloth for a sustainability fair I teach and vend at. I *KNOW* someone on this board crocheted a tampon for re-use and while I am just kinda winging it right now, it would be nice to crochet off of a pattern...
