My gramma just gave me a treadle sewing machine that belonged to my great gramma Milly. She sewed her wedding gown on it. I have no idea how to use one but I do know that it works fine and has a new belt on it. My gramma Lois (the one giving to me) takes such good care of all of the old things.I knew and loved my great gramma Milly she was a wonderful woman.
Well I am going to read the treadle thread and see how to dot this.
Bright Blessings,
BillieKay

I was very lucky to find a treadle machine with all of its parts and plenty of accessories. My daddy bought it for $100 at a thrift shop, and I used it for years. It's still in excellent working order, but when I got married, it stayed home and we moved. I can't wait to tap the treadle again! Annie.

My maternal grandmother had a treadle that went on to my Mom after she passed away. My mom said I could have it whenever I want and it's so special....this is also the grandmother that taught me to knit and paint watercolors. I can't wait to get it, unfortunately, it's in Denver, CO, and that's quite a road trip for me!

My mother has her grandmother's and uses it as a table too. I have given her special instructions to NEVER EVER get rid of it. I WANT THAT THING!! I think if taken care of, they are a beautiful piece of furniture.

That is wonderful. I always remember my grandmother sewing with hers. Although I have a treadle sewing machine, it didn't come from my grandmother. I found it at a yard sale. It too works perfect.

How fun to recieve your great gramma's machine!
Years ago I was at my grandma's house and saw her treadle sewing maching sitting outside. I guess she had run out of room in her house and out it went. It was already in pretty bad shape, so I do not if it could be saved. But I asked my dad to try to rescue it. I don't remember what ever happened to it, but it probably ended up at the dump! I wish I had been more insistant! (I have wondered about that machine many times over the years since I saw it there under the pine trees.) Anyway, my gramma was a pack rat and did not let her things go. It was not until after she died that we got any of her belongings. So sad! I still treasure the things, but it would have meant more if she had asked us all what we wanted and given it to us. I have told my kids to make a list of what they want and when I get to be an old bag I'll pass it on to them. My mom has already given me her doll and other treasures. Bless her heart, she is so sweet.
I do have another one of my gramma's old machines with the dome syle cover (well, it is really like an upsde down u shape, I just can't think of the word). I have not tried to sew on it yet, but need to do that.

How exciting! I am waiting for my Great grandma's treadle machine..my mom has it and says it will be mine someday. She uses it for a side table in her entryway right now..and I LOVE it. I am so tempted to see if I could get her a nice side table and trade and get it sooner..haha. I wouldn't have the nerve to ask..just how I am..I will wait. But what a treasure thay you have yours...You will have so much fun with it!!!
