Anybody else try Aunt Philly's toothbrush rugs. I bought a couple of the patterns about a month ago at my local quilt shop and just got around to starting one a few days ago. They are super easy once you get the hang of it and really are fast to make. I am trying to get some done as Christmas gifts. They are coming out so nicely! If you haven't heard of them, they are rag rugs that require no sewing, nor any crocheting skills. I have tried making the rag rug in MJ's book, but I really have a hard time with crochet for some reason. Anyway, if you want to check them out, go here:

You can use one of the old style toothbrushes with a hole in the handle or else Aunt Philly has the tool for sale. It is essentially a plastic needle that's big enough to thread with the strips of material. You just rip up the material and use the tool to make the rug. It is really fun and addictive. I'll have to post a pic when I get mine done that I'm working on for my sister. |

How is this made? What does the tooth brush look like and what do you do with it? Anybody got pictures?

I have made them before. I did a rug and have done some of the placemats. I used flannel that I found at a yard sale. There was about six yards of it for $1. I did have to get more which I picked up at walmart just to make it the size I wanted.
My first one I did a few years ago and it has held up well through washing too.

I have done several. Try t-shirt fabric, especially the prints. And its quite washable. They are beautiful. I use a blue background and it had huge roses on it and it look pretty ugly and turn out to be the prettist rug. I also do old fashion braided wool rugs. Rugs are a passion. I also did one out of old sheets and it lasted another 3 years.
