Posted - Nov 29 2007 : 07:20:48 AM Hello, Does anyone have any patterns for purses that are 30-50 style or web sites that might have them. I would like to make a purse for a friend that really likes the felted purses but doesn't want to pay the price for one. Since I have the skills I thought it would be a great gift and fun too. Has anyone else used old sweaters that you felt to make items? And what? My children and I made Christmas Stockings one year when they where 4-10. I made a pattern of a stocking and helped them trace them, cut, they hand stitched (there rendition of the blanket stitch) and added pockets, bells, old jewelry and other embellishments. Children can be really creative. They turned out so cool and unique my children still use them and they are 19-27 now. ![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Posted - Nov 29 2007 : 1:43:36 PM This handle is a piece of felted wool that I rolled and stitched together with grey wool. I usuallly just cut the handles out of some part of the sweater....like the sleeves if they are long enough....or I have seen large grommets used and a chain for the shoulder strap or handles, or beads....you can really get creative!!!
I just finished a clutch...will post a pic later.

Posted - Nov 29 2007 : 12:15:30 PM How do you do the handles? I was thinking about beaded but not sure of how to do it. Bev I love the polka dots, Karin Thanks for the suggestion on wool type. Can't wait to see the pic.

Posted - Nov 29 2007 : 10:55:49 AM Funny, but I just made this one this morning. It started out to be a plain grey knit. I felted it in the washer and dryer, hand sewed it into a purse (it was too thick for my machine!) and then embellished with needle felting (white wool dots)...using unspun wool. I like the way it turned out...but I don't use patterns....just wing it, sorry.

Posted - Nov 29 2007 : 07:29:57 AM Betty Jo- I make purses from felted sweaters. I don't use patterns though. I just look a the sweater and let it tell me what it should look like. I will tell you that a lightweight merino wool sweater makes a nice, slouchy purse with a 40's feel. I will take a picture of mine and post it later today.
