Rebekka! OMG I am doing all of that as well! I teach workshops on Green Cleaning through community ed and a sustainability group, Facilitate Trust Birth meetings, am STILL nursing Zoe, I am a certified labor and PP doula and am one of a few women who uses cloth dipes in our community. In fact, the WIC office needed info on cloth dipes and called me up. I gathered from women here, old diapers they didn't need as well as materials to make new dipes for a mama in need. Her babe was allergic to all the disposable brands! This Winter at our Back to B.A.S.I.C.S. fair, I am teaching a series on using cloth all around the home for health and cleaning etc.!! How neat!! As far as getting in with WIC, I just called them up one day, asked if there was a need for being a nursing mentor and I was in-THEN, I proposed the babywearing workshops. It was the county's idea for me to make carriers for them to buy to give to women who attend the classes. My next classes are in the Spring!

Annika- When can you start! HA- they are fun but having a 4 year old and a one year old is WILD...one of us is usually hollerin, crying or needing a nap but we do have a ball most of the time. Having girlfriends who are funny and wild and warm helps alot;)
I love all you gals! Rebekka

You girls are all right, and all of you ROCK! Babies need to be held and bonding doesn't happen in a non-organic sterile environment where baby is only picked up when necessary.I'm so glad to hear of you all and how your care for the little ones. Rebekka, if you need a second pair of hands, do let me know =)

Tasha- You Rock sister!!! Bella was in the sling until two and a half and Jack is still riding in it at one;)I would love to get something like that going at our local WIC office, how did you get started? I am also a doula and I really feel that new families need a workshop to introduce them to the basics of cloth diapering, breastfeeding, babywearing, local parenting resources and non toxic housekeeping. Thanks for getting my gears turning again- it is easy to let the dreamy things fall to the bottom of the list with little ones at home;)

I love my sling! We used it on our first daughter until she was almost 2 yrs old. I'm due in 6 weeks and I have already unpacked my sling. It was one of the first things I pulled out. I also made a mei tei for this little one. I can not image NOT wearing my babies. There is just no down side to it for either mommy or baby.

Rebekka! I teach babywearing workshops to women in the local WIC program!! I make mei teis and the county buys them from me to be able to give them to those women. Both of my girls loved being worn (Zoe still does get worn at two!!!) and they wear their babies constantly! We bought a double stroller for all four of us to go for a walk...we have only used it once because both girls hate it so much. I am a huge huge huge advocate for wearing your babies anyway you can (safely) and anywhere at anytime!!

Dolly slings are fabulous- I am about to make a bunch for my etsy shop- I will have to print up instructions for that as well once I figure it out- you could just knot a long skinny piece of lightweight fabric for a dolly sling. It is so fun to watch them play at being little caregivers...my daughter has a made one and also uses play silks tied around her.
Goodnight All! Happy Sewing, Rebekka

No, they live in the Midwest, but I have my niece and her boy friend who are engaged and I'm hoping that there will soon be babies here in Moscow to cuddle. I didn't get any mail today darnnit! I would like a workshop, it sounds fun, lets think on this and see who else may be interested. I was also thinking of making little girls dolly slings, so they could cuddle with a favorite toy, I wonder if that would be a good idea

Annika-
I also teach sling making workshops locally so maybe we can get a class together if you would rather learn to make your own that way. I taught one in Pullman with three gals over the summer and it was a hoot! Is your family in town? I hope so- then you will get a lot of cuddle time in... I hope you get your swap package from me tomorrow- one of the items in it will keep you warm and cozy for our snow storm(though shouldn't it be snowing here now?)
Hugs, Rebekka

I am going to custom order one from you a little closer to spring...well, after taxes anyway. My Nephew and his wife are expecting and I want them to have a sling that they can both wear and cuddle the little one in. I don't want to make any mistakes and have an injured great niece or nephew.

Makes me REALLY crave motherhood, how cuddly and sweet!

Slings are wonderful, I highly recommend baby wearing for every parent and caregiver. Our babies need to feel our warmth and breath and we need to have our hands free! If you find a ring style sling is difficult for you to use I make pouch style baby slings that each include a pattern for personal use. The best part is that you are able to make slings for yourself and for friends as gifts from there on out for just the cost of material. My slings were featured in MaryJane's Stitching Room and you can see them there or on my etsy store.

Please contact me with any questions you might have about babywearing (any style sling)- it is vitally important that you understand how your sling works and I am happy to answer questions anytime.
Warmly, Rebekka
