Hello all--hoping for some help with this one.

I was given a bunch of beautiful yarn called "Chess." I don't know if this is the manufacturer's brand or the name of the yarn. The label is black with "CHESS" picked out in primary colors. It's 50% wool/50% acrylic (and feels wooooonderful!), comes in 50g/85meter balls, is made in Norway and has the following under what looks like a company logo (a viking-style ship under full sail, with an 'S' for the sail):
Sandnes Uldvarefabrikk A/S
4300 Sandnes
Made in Norway

The care instructions are in Norwegian(?), English and German.

Any help on this would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you!
Kathy

Jana- Thank you for your offer, but it's only the washing instructions that are in German (as well as English and Norwegian). At least I think it's German (I took Spanish in high school!).
Lucinda- Each ball is 85 meters, and my math is shaky on the conversion to yards.

I was thinking of making a cardigan with the fuschia Chess as one stripe across the front and back, and maybe with the collar and cuffs in Chess as well. Thanks for all your positive thoughts, ladies! I really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Kathy

If you don't want an entire sweater, how about a knit jacket with collar and cuffs in Chess? The body of the jacket could be something much more neutral.

Hi Kathy!

12 balls is a good amount. How many yards in each ball

Kathy,

If you would like me to translate the German for you , I'd be glad to.

Lucinda, you're a doll.

Thanks for giving me that information. It's too bad that line was discontinued--the yarn is so soft and the perfect blend of wool and acrylic.

I haven't decided really what to do with it yet. I have about 12 balls (50g each), and the color is this really flashy fuschia/pink. I like the color, but don't want an entire sweater made of that color. Ah well. Maybe I'll search Ebay.

I really appreciate your help!

Cheers,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Your yarn was manufactured by "Sandnes Uldvarefabrikk" in Norway (http://www.sandnes.no). The "Chess" line was discontinued some time ago. There should be care symbols if you are unable to sort out the text. These are universal and you can find a key to them online or in "Vogue Knitting" or "Cast On".

Have you decided what you are going to make with it yet?
