For my bellydance wardrobe. I dance American Tribal Style and had a few things laying around and so I constructed this today:

back view

and I also made some new hair falls, but the picture makes them look hot pink instead of the wine color they actually are:

voila!

Hubba hubba, gal pal! And good golly miss molly, Tasha. I would LOVE to sift through your craft room, with all those cool things just "laying around". A+ on the craftsmanship (or would that be craftschickship)? Hugs and hoolahoops (that would be a good start, huh?), Nance

oh you should so try. I firmly believe-and I start every class with this- that there is a belly dancer in every woman. It is a dance made for women by women and danced by women. Its so perfect!

Diane, I did work with our local theater this summer on a couple of performances-Flowers for Algernon and then a small one act play that was written by a local artist. It was nothing glitsy but I do love costuming! I think it's because of costuming involved in some rituals I have been to both as a Witch and when I was Catholic. I do love drama! I think that is part of the reason I love bellydance so much!

YEs! Bonne! Try it! I really think you'll enjoy making something! You get to express so much of yourself when you amke your own costuming!

I don't dance, but I've gotten several hip belts and dance CD's
from Cimeshadow , mostly to tease the hubby~ROFL!! He's so abused.
I'll have to try my hand at it, as I've got boxes and boxes of beads and
cowry shells.

That's gorgeous Tasha. Have you ever thought of getting into theatrical costuming as a sideline? I did it for years and you very obviously have a flair for it. A bonus is you get to see a lot of productions for free too! The best one I ever worked was Broadway's Jesus Christ Superstar when they were on tour. Fabulous costuming and no budget!

Its pretty heavy. We weighed it and its almost two pounds! I used hot melt glue to hold the shells(which are strung together) and the beading is beaded trim I bought awhile ago. That was hot melt glued and then hand stitched on. the squares up top, I am not sure what they were made of-they were gifted to me by a flickr friend. They feel plastic like, but they definitely are not plastic. It is all on a padded bra. If you make one onto a bra, the bra needs to be structured to hold the shape. The hot melt glue helps in that too. Makes the bra rock hard so that the form doesn't decay. this is the third bra I have made and I am in the middle of making another for another dancer right now.

It so much cheaper to do it this way, and honestly, one's own personality comes out more this way too. Some bras online (good, well made ATS bras) run pretty expensive...even ones that are not ornate like this one.

This one at Black Lotus is $200!

and these at this other site:
http://www.zarasemporium.com/brastribal.htm

I am personally not fond of coins on my bosom, though one of my other bras does have coins. To me the coins are more cabaret than the effect I go for in my dancing.

The very bottom fringe is just a vintage wool tassel fringe I have had laying around for quite some time.

Bonne-we can discuss one if you like...you could send me a padded bra that fits you and then the money to buy the accoutrements to go on it and tell me colors and what not and I can make it for you! Maybe a tassel and beaded belt to match? Do you dance too!?

So gorgeous, Tasha--
It looks, ahem, "weighty" in the chest area--is it?

"She was built like a watch, a study in balance ... with a neck and head so refined, like a drawing by DaVinci"...
NY Newsday sportswriter Bill Nack describing filly, Ruffian.

Incredible!! What did you use as a base to support all that beading?
And the trim along the top, are those made from shisha mirrors, or
is it braid trim? Can you tell Bonne wants one ?? LOL
