I came home from work tonight, after a cold, wet day helping cranky customers and hauling garden stuff to cars in the miserable rain and hail, with my arms full of groceries, feeling crabby and blue. And there, assembled in my dining room, was the quilting machine and frame I have had my eye on for over a year. And my grandchildren yelling "Surprise, Nana!!" And my dear sweet husband, who this year has literally become a new man and made me fall in love with him all over again after 31 years of marriage, is standing there with a big grin on his face, 'cause he knows I have known absolutely nothing about this in advance!

What a guy. What a shock. What a lovely gift.
Any body have any quilt tops they want quilted? I think I am in business....

Sourdough starter! That is hilarious. But truer than we think perhaps! These stories really warm my heart to read. Diane - I am so happy for you - making it through all that you and your hubby have is quite amazing and reassuring to all of us.

Your signature explains it. If you don't have these hard times they are lurking around a corner, it seems. It is good you are through your's now and enjoying such an awesome man and honeymoon. This is exciting and worth bragging about. Sorry for interjecting but I am a sap for happy endings and ever afters!!!

Thanks for all the sweet congrats. I don't usually share for fear of sounding like bragging, but this one I couldn't help.

Shannon, there is no simple answer to what made my husband change. We have been through some really bad times the last 5 years. Almost overnight, we went from a Hallmark commercial type family of 5 with 3 daughters in high school, to one daughter married, abused and now divorced single mother of 3,one diagnosed with a mental illness who has made our life hell, 2 parents both dying slowly, a brother also dying, my husband getting called up to active duty and losing a promotion, financial resources and retirement money, him suffering through an accident and the ensuing spinal column surgery, and his best friend commiting suicide.

He became depressed and nothing I did seemed to help. I got a job. I lost weight. I offered to sell the farm and move to town. When at last it got so bad I told him either go see a Dr. or I am leaving, he stubbornly waited for months. In the mean time, 2 of the fella's I worked with became "interested" in the much thinner me and I think a combination of that and finally getting on some antidepressants woke him up.He got scared. He had sort of a mental breakdown and an epiphany all at the same time.He almost lost me, and knew it.And it has been nothing but a second honeymoon ever since.

My Grandma used to say "where there is still love there is always hope".It is lovely to be treasured again.

The question that I have and am surprised that no one has asked this yet: What in the world caused your husband to become a new man? Is it contagious? We have our 30th wedding anniversary this coming March.... will I have to wait one more year after that? I have a sweety too but he's like sour dough starter... needs feeding every so often to get him going. Have fun with all the quilting. Shannon in Chickaloon Alaska

What a wonderful surprise! That was such a thoughtful loving thing for your husband to do. You know I really do think they get sweeter and even more caring about pleasing you as they get older. I know my has, and I love it.

Oh how sweet! Don't you love it when them surprising you makes them so happy. Sometimes I like that better than the surprise.
