does anyone collect buttons?

my grandmother was a quilter and to keep me busy she would give me her button box and a long piece of thread and i would get to make my own button necklaces.

i love to get a big bowl of them and just run them through my fingers.
i have 2 large chicken waterers full in my front room and people always comment on them when they're at the house.

always looking for more so if you have some, let me know.

talk to you soon. karen

Bramble,

I too have received my packet of buttons from you - so clever! I received them awhile ago and should have responded sooner, but haven't had a chance and I'm sorry! Thank you so much!

Glad you all liked them so far! I am still mailing and if you are on the charm square list they are coming together, sorry for the delay. I am really behind ( too many trips with my son to the doctor the last few weeks for an assortment of injuries and ailments. He will survive, but I might not! Don't give up on me , I'm still constructing and mailing!!!

I just found the cutest wall clock idea on the Martha Stewart web site under button crafts using what else Buttons! I've never been moved to make a wall clock before but this is just adorable and I can see it hanging in a country kitchen with aprons near by. Or for that matter it would look great in a craft room as well!

Hi -- Go to www.google.com and then type in your search words and go. I typed in the words 'embroidery pattern southern belle' and found quite a few sites with the pattern available -- very pretty patterns! Hope this helps.

one of the cutest christmas cards I ever recieved was one from my cousin (she didn't make them, but they could be easily) that was a small powder blue card with a little snowman on the front..with one big white button and one small flat white button one on top of the other..for his body..and an embroidery floss "scarf". It was very simple..just said warm wishes on the front was blank inside...cute cute cute.

Karen - I am DEFINITELY interested! I'll email you so I don't derail the thread :)

hey lynn-

i'm trying to straighten up my office and reduce my stuff-i have quite a few buttons that would be perfect for your projects-i'm trying to concentrate on vintage and these are ones i've bought in jars of buttons and picked through-nothing wrong with them but just not what i'm collecting at the moment.

i could probably come up with a hundred or so easy. are you interested and would you have anything you'd like to trade?

talk to you soon. karen

I didn't read the whole thread but I just got a cool idea for using buttons! I don't collect them (I actually don't collect much of anything, yet) but now I want to find a whole bunch for this Christmas.

I want to find some good cardstock paper with a little texture, cut it in half and fold it in half again, and stitch or glue buttons on the front of the card in the shape of a Christmas tree, or a star, or an angel and send them as our cards this year.

I also wrap my gifts in simple butcher's paper and splurge on things like ribbon & trinkets to dress it up. But it would also be cool to glue some buttons on the front of the package too.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I think the bubble wrap is a good idea and you can make a small pouch without it taking up too much room - one of my senders did that and it still fit in an envelope. I will do that because so much of the mail service is machine operated, I fear that even if we write "hand cancel" on the envelope, I don't know that they will actually do it...

By the way, Susan, I wish I lived closer to PA so I could visit your farm! I think I will do all my Christmas shopping from farmgirls' websites!

Maybe also writing "fragile" on the front and back of the envelope will help? Worth a try!

I must apologize,
I am also slow at sending my buttons out but wanted to give some feedback on sending "Hand Cancel". I am not sure this is enough security as two of my three arrivals have had broken buttons in them. I'm talking REALLY crunched.
I think I am going to send my selections wrapped first in a paper towel and then in a small bubble envelope.Maybe that might protect them......should I still ask for "hand cancel"?

Bridgette, Lori and Karen, I have received all your buttons and am so embarrased that I haven't sent mine out yet - plan to get them together this weekend. Thank you all! They are great! Only one broken one in the bunch. Now that the mailing list is here, how do we view a current list? I had printed it out when Karen sent it, but don't know how many others have signed up. I'm sorry if it's a dumb question...
