Posted - Aug 18 2007 : 9:08:54 PM I especially love to make dolls. Sculpting & painting their faces is probably my favorite part of the process. I also really enjoy stitching up different kinds of sewing accessories. I think this is because I love using those things. I like hand stitching almost anything but can't stand to quilt! Go figure. Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 06:48:58 AM Hi gals, I mostly do crochet and I taught myself with only a few minutes watching a woman after I had learned. This was before the internet! lol I make thick warm vests, afghans--baby and large ones, rugs, pillows, etc I learned to knit in grade school in Bermuda in the 50s and picked it back up a few years ago....slower for me but relaxing to do the only time I watch tv without crafting is when I am falling asleep lol
YOYOS ARE MY FAVORITE NOW....!
also do plastic canvas needlepoint hand and machine embroider
learned to sew in the 60s in grade school...and never stopped sewing. Some of our machines were the treadle type but went too slow for me...we only had a few electric ones in the class, also shortage of electric outlets...LOL wow, I am sounding like an oldtimer....! I am 57 years old now. nuff about me..
Easy does it,one day at a time by the grace of God. Amazing grace how sweet the sound. Linda in PA |

Posted - Aug 14 2007 : 12:07:23 PM Beth, I started using some "exotic" tallows after joining the Tallow Soapers group on yahoo. One of the gals there renders deer, bison, raccoon! and offers it for sale. I've gotten much from her but I've also rendered bison and elk tallow from locally ranched animals. People with "vegan" issues wouldn't choose my soap, but I love the soaps using tallow and lard in the blend of oils.(like the "old" days) Rendering is a messy PIA though~but at least the fats, a byproduct, don't go to waste and get tossed out. Plus they make awesome soap!

Posted - Aug 14 2007 : 10:11:58 AM Those ae adorable Frannie. I am so amazed at the talent that people have when they apply it. The idea's are endless. I bet there are a few out there that tie flies for fishing too. The neat thing is reading not only what people do but the stories behind them getting started. Tradition or not, it is interesting. This is great, thank you ladies!!!

Posted - Aug 14 2007 : 09:58:14 AM I am just into soaping and sewing.
But Bison Tallow Soap, Wow. I have been soaping for a very long time and been in countless swaps... and I have never used Bison tallow soap! And you are the first person I have ever heard make it. But if you ever want to swap a bar.... I only make the boring Olive oil kind.

Posted - Aug 13 2007 : 1:38:54 PM I have to say my dolls are my favorite thing. They're actually earning me money now AND I love to make them because they all turn out so individual. I always finish one and then "introduce" it to my husband....he seems annoyed but he's good-natured enough to deal with it. :)
