do you have a favorite? long, short, bib, colorful, kitschie?

the aprons i find myself most drawn to are the WHITE ones .. especially victorian .. the longer white ones with beautiful lace.

a second favorite would be the 1800's homespun checked ones.

how's about YOU!

I like vintage style full aprons too. I am excited about the ticking since I got some a while ago and never knew what I wanted to do with it. You guys gave me a great purpose for it!

Frannie,
I luv UR cute apron.... to clever!
I love 1/2 aprons, especially the "coctail" type of the 1950's & 60's.
The more whimsical & frofro the better. And I agree w/Alee, 1/2 aprons look cute w/jeans.

this apron is cotton ticking, with crocheted pockets. i'd love to brag and say i crocheted them, but that wouldnt be a brag, it would be a lie. i am a lover of crochet, espcially vintage crochet and edgings so i just reuse them on things that i make.
i made a pocet to go on this apron and then i attached it by handsewing the crochet to it.
so i guess i'm not a crocheter, i'm an embellisher!

i like to wear the ones that are like smocks in the kitchen cause i need all the cover i can get when i'm cooking. otherwise i wear a "domestic goddess apron aka nail apron every day, and sometimes wear 2 or 3 at the same time. they are great for organizing as you clean and they are not hot, which is important here.

I'm a full apron gal. I make such a mess when I cook, I have to cover up!! But I love making half aprons as gifts.

I only have 2 aprons so far...one is a bib style and goes down to my knees. It is beautiful and has sunflowers all over it!! My other apron is a smock style, it is short and ties on both sides. It has really big pockets on it and I love it too!

I like the full ones, I am always splashing or dripping something on me.

I like the full ones - most of everything I cook lands above the waist (Hmmm, I wonder what that means?) I like florals. I've never worn one in the garden, but I might try it.

I'm a magnet to dirt. Especially in the garden. So, I ususally wear mid length bib style with pockets for my tools and other garden goodies. In the kitchen I'm not much better. Like to have some place to wipe my hands, so I prefer sturdy fabric that covers my tummy so when I lean over the counter I don't get dirty. When my aprons are in the wash I resort to a dishtowel tucked into the waistband. I know - not very farm girl of me, but it works.

I just have fallen in love with aprons. Never wore them a lot until this last year and then in May meeting you all and I have made 2 of them. If baking, a full one, I am a slob!!!!
Halfs just for fun. Like thinking of ways of making differnet ones.

Something that covers both top & bottom sufficiently to keep me from staining even MORE clothes in my baking adventures. Simple bib-styles just don't quite do it, it's got to have better coverage than that, really. But, anything longer than knee-length is almost too long, as I'm so short anyway. I kind of like sleeveless smock-style, but all I know how to make is a simple bib-topped style & half-aprons.
Aunt Jenny Posted - Jul 30 2007 : 11:08:53 AM
My favorites are all 1940's style with vintage repro fabrics..and lots of bias tape and rick rack...they are usually just above knee length. I do have regular bib type too..in fact I am wearing a real simple one today in John Deere fabric..but those are my favorites!

The aprons I like best are bright, pretty flowered ones! Full or half, it does not matter. My current favorite ones, are half aprons, one with flowers, and the other is red checked. I had gotten them both free at a garage sale!! Michele

I like the full aprons. I have some half aprons but I just know if I don't wear the full ones with the bib I will be mesing up my tops. I do like the half ones for use in decorating though.

Howdy again!
I like old fashioned flower printed bib short aprons. I have a vintage pattern that I bought on Ebay...pattern is yellowed with age and a true vintage....probably from 50s or 60s it is really nice and you ladies have me inspired to make it. I have not learned how to put a pic on for you...but I will learn.
:-)
I'm not crazy about the flat straight bbq kind that men wear.....not real comfortable for me. Maybe I needed darts to fit my chest! LOL

I made a long apron off white with eyelet lace on the hem. I wore it only a couple of times with an era costume. When I try to wear a non-bibed apron I keep feeling like I will get my top dirty...and usually do! with flour! LOL
