thanks again for the encouragement and ideas.
i have always loved making the tags, and i think i will explore the idea of making some notecards.
i am always looking for new crafts to do, just so i dont get in a rut and also because i need a rest sometime from the reptition of the handcrafts so my hands can have a little time off.
junebug, i print my master copy of the pictures on watercolor paper, sometime the printer and i have a little battle over this. i use an epson stylus cx 4200.
so the water color of the photos is actually watercolored on paper that is very receptive to watercolor.
then i copy that on card stock which you know is a little heavier than just papter.
everything i do is trial and error, and if you try any of it and run into some snags i will be happy to share specific solutions that i have come up with.
thanks again for the input, i love hearing from other crafters who are doing the same type work,,,,,well i just love hearing from other crafters.

Frannie -- Do let us all know how the notecards work out. From time to time, I make notecard collages -- and also gift tags -- and sell them at our Historical Society's consignment shop. They always sell. I've been toying with the idea of doing some using historical photos of our area. . . that's why I thought of notecards when viewing your tags.

Frannie I love the tags on your blog! I always make my own tags to give with gifts, and I'm learning they can be gifts in themselves as well. Good luck with yours!!

katie-ell,
saw your post on the blog spot and wanted to thank you for the encouragement and i have done some postcards before but not the notecards, i will play around with that and see what i can come up with.
i am getting ready for roundtop in sept-oct. and will be taking alot of crafts and collectibles there so i may see if the postcard /notecard idea may be something i could do there.

i'm sorry to tease you about the cootie, but i have to fess up and tell you we had a cootie like this on our mama goat this past spring. well really at the beginning of summer. we were shearing the goats, we were a little late with it cause it had been a cool spring and lots of rain, well she must have had a wound and when i went to inspect it, i found what you found on your little dog.
i do not think i have a weak stomach, i have seen all kinds of things cause i started working in hospitals when i was about 16. dh calls me the ob to the cats and the proctologist to the goats, but let me tell you i thought i was gonna loose it.
i cleaned out the wound and put antispetic in it and then we just kept doctoring it, and the little critters never came back.
anywho, i knew when i teased you about it that i would have to fess up.
now for something completely different.....
glad you like the addition to the blog.
i hope to water color your photos tomorrow or thursday, whichever day i am alone, cause if the kiddos are here they will want to help.
we paint together , but not on all projects.

Hey Frannie - thanks for the advertising!! Your blog looks great. By the way, my pup is doing much better today. I think we got the one and only "cootie" out!
frannie Posted - Jul 31 2007 : 6:52:42 PM
well i have been in imagination land for a couple of days working on the business cards and hang tags. i am really enjoying this, and sherri is fun to work with. (even though her dog has cooties)
i'm sorry i couldnt resist that. anyway, i have posted some of the tags and cards we are working on and wanted to share them. also if any one else out there needs a card or label or hangtag, please give me a chance cause this is alot of fun.
i will also barter if you have a product that i cant live without, and a lot of you do, also you have to promise not to mention to dh that i bartered.
i used photos i had here for examples but for sherries tags we will use photos of her when she was just a wee one, or i should say
"small frie". anyway, take a peek.

well, i am off on a new venture, designing a business card and some hang tags for our very own, sherri (mikesgirl).
having a great time coming up with ideas, my favorite thing, and i am excited to be able to work for a lady who does such wonderful work. here is an example of what she makes.

i think they are very charming. great work, sherri.

when i print them on fabric, i let them cool and then i iron set them with a little cloth between them. ya know i'm not sure i have used that method on fabric that gets washed, just my pincushions, and wall hangings, and these funny pins i make that i call blue ribbon pins, kinda like you would win at a fair, but more for when you just need a little recognition and nobody else has noticed so you just give yourself a blue ribbon day.
anyway, i will do a little test when i get a chance and see.

Hey Fran,

So you are printing out the fabric from an Inkjet printer and just heatsetting it...and it is staying permanent through many wash cycles?

I have bought the Bubble Jet Set 2000 and the Rinse that goes with it....just got it in last week...so I'm gonna try that. Then I found some fabric sheets that are already treated with the Bubble Jet Set..I'll let you know how it works..

I'm so happy you discovered a niche for something you love to do!

well, i just love a little kismet here and there.
i have been racking my brain now for the last 5 years trying to make a little extra money. the crafts do fine, but if i go to a show out of town, it is really iffy cause i cause i have a lot of overhead.
anyway, i love making the pincushions and the stuffies etc, but i always need more to work on to supplement the income. so thanks once again to the farmgirls for all the encouragment, i will try and figure out my cost and what the different options might be and then i'll present them on the blog and here and see if anyone is interested.
thanks again, ladies yall are all great to me.
ps. last night i stayed up late reading about the miniapron thread, didnt even get half way through, but i just loved reading about it. i'll try to catch up and read the rest of yalls mini apron tonite.

stephanie,
i just started using the transfer papers and i am learning about them.....but i did buy a book recently about transfering images to just about ANYTHING!
so my family has started to run around me for fear that if they stand still i will transfer an image onto them.
i have had good luck with the image transfers so far, but i usually just feed the fabric into the printer and then i sweet talk the printer into accepting it....("mom's talking to the printer again"...) and then i pass of any wrinkles or glitches as art.
after, the ink has had time to cool down i iron it . cause dh did not like seeing the images on his work clothes.

Hey Fran,

I know what you mean about turning 3 steps into 45 I'm self taught with everything I do so it's a trial and error process...LOL

So you use photos and other paper images, print them then watercolor them...now what medium are you using to transfer it to the fabric and make it permanent...I've been messing with image transfers and there are so many techniques that folks are trying..I haven't tryed it yet using the gel mediums..

You truly have the advantage since it's been learned without a computer program! Really all you need to do is scan into your harddrive a copy of your finished tags and open them in a simple inexpensive cardmaking, etc program and you could add the customized text that customer may want like their business name, web address and telephone number. These programs are easy to use and offer many ready to use templates.

Talk to ya later
