I'm so excited! There is a store in southwestern IN that wants to sell my primitive dolls! The woman owns a restaurant and the other side of the restaurant is a country/primitive crafts shop. (The area is a big tourist area because there is a state park and a national park honoring the fact that Abraham Lincoln once lived there and his mother is buried there.) My mom gave a speech there last week on plants of Indiana in 1812 and afterwards, she was telling the owner about my dolls. She said she had been looking for someone to make dolls to sell at the store. I emailed her pictures and she wrote me back saying she thought they would sell great. So I'm going to get another 7-12 dolls made and get them over to her store in the next month. I'm so excited!

oh good Rachel, we should work it out then. I left you a few messages on that thread, but I do not think everyone is checking it as I have several unswapped dollies in waiting. Let me know what you want to do.

Hi Sunshine and gals,
I wanted to find a doll swap! Love making dolls....it has to be someone special to get one because I usually keep mine. :-)
I am making my 7 year old son a boy doll about 30" tall, a size 3 shirt was a little tight...so he will wear hand me downs. I am going to buy 2nd hand baby shoes for him, etc.
I used a very simple pattern and enlarged it.
Mine aren't exactly primitive....I just make simple dolls with embroidered faces...and I love button eyes, etc. I guess you could call them rag dolls.
My idea for a new swap was a Raggedy Ann doll special swap. The 16 or 18 inch size from regular pattern would work...send her naked....then we have outfit swap just to fit her.
That way we would all have a new doll made by someone else and some outfits made by others. What do you think?
Linda in PA...I am new
:-)

I will post a picture of my "kids" when they're all done, before I ship them off to the store.

As for my hubby, Nance, I guess he does resemble Cuba a bit. All I know is he's hot. ;)

High five, Rachel Leigh! I am so happy for you: you must be bouncing off the wall with excitement! Yes, please post pics of the newest "beautifuls", as Frannie's granddaughter calls them! Congrats! Nance

PS Doesn't your hubby look a little like Cuba Gooding, Jr. or is just me?!

Hey Rachel,

Go Girl!! Oh, that's so wonderful!! Does this lady have a website for the shop side or the restaurant?

Even if she doesn't you can put all of your dolls on your blog and say which "retailers" have them for sale. Will be great for marketing your designs.

Been meaning to tell you my neice's name is: Rachel Leigh

I do that among many crafts, but at that time I was selling my work for $25.00 for a small picture on wood about 5" X 8" to a table (already prepped) for $300.00 just basic prices. It was something I picked up by practice and was in full fledged business within 6 months with people wanting to partner up and fighting over it. some of the work was also routed out and had more dimension that way. I also used to add some color on some. There were Indian reservations there that bought as much as I could produce. Then I moved to Oregon and many other things happened. I love crafting though and now I knit..

Pauline, you're very right. It's ALLL about the area. My dolls probably wouldn't sell very well here in metropolitan Louisville but I can imagine in this little town, where the focus is pioneer life, that they would probably sell better.

You do wood burning? I love wood burnings! Those are sooo beautiful!

I went to your site and I love the doll that you had on display. I think it's awesome that you will have such a perfect outlet for selling your dolls. Sometimes its the area you're in that makes the difference, for sure. I know my wood burning and art work sold more in Kenniwick, WA than it does in this area in Oregon. I did a lot of eagles and owls, but did the tops of many tables with animals and flowers of all kinds.
What character your dolls have! Congratulations Rachel..
