I brought home about 200 40's and 50's era patterns today from Salvation Army. Most are ladies clothing, but some childrens, aprons, hats and embroidery transfers. Some for nightwear and dress suits and everything in between. 3 booklets on using feed sacks. I don't need 3, will need to do some sort of drawing for the two extras. Interesting notes on many of the patterns, dates and who the item was made for, etc. One said "hard to make", bet it wasn't used twice. Some have been cut, others as new. I didn't count the newer ones I don't have any reason to keep, probably 40 or more of them. Total cost..about $15. I've seen some of these oldies on eBay for $5-10 each. Size 18 says 36" bust...how times (and sizing) have changed. Jars of buttons were half price too. I know at least a few of you farm girls like the vintage styling-are you reading this Naomi Michelle?

OhMyGosh!! I never ever find those here, they just don't sell anything like that in any thrift or whatever, I am SO jealous but in a good way, lol.

IF ever you think of bartering some, I am definitely in! Esp in dresses and the such, oh buttons too, lol.

Just asking :)

Wow - I am so envious!! I love 1940's dresses - I used to sell vintage clothes so I could support my vintage dress habit, I can never find them any more though so I figure I will have to make my own - if you want to sell or barter for any let me know

I'm with Naomi, I want to know what your plans are for these patterns? Vintage hat and dress patterns are so CLASSY! My favorite dress EVER was a handmade 1950's swing style dress made from chocolate and white gingham. I bought it for $3 at a thrift store for hubbys graduation (we got married in high school). I looked so great in that dress (you only get 1 or 2 dresses like that in a lifetime)!

Ronna,
You lucky thing you!! I have managed to scoop up a few vintage patterns and some old Housekeeping magazines from the 50s at our shops. But I think it is like so many things now; unfortunately people seem to know what things are worth now and they end up on ebay for way more than I can afford.
You will have so much fun sorting through them all! Wish I could come and see them!
Happy sewing,
Jayne

Hey sunshine if you get the apron patterns, can you pick a couple of them and copy them. Let me know. I am really enjoying aprons for the first time in my life. Have been wearing them off and on for the last 6 months. Our quilt group is doing them this year for our birthday exchange. It is how I found out about you all, because of aprons in Artistry. Okay, got off the subject let me know. Carol Sue

Ooooh, embroidery transfers! I'd certainly be interested in those, especially plant or animal ones. What a fun day you must have had with your finds.

Hey Ronna,

I have a 4 drawer file cabinet that holds my ongoing collection of vintage sewing patterns, booklets and transfers....I'd be interested in any for toddler sizes 2-3-4 or any ladies accessory patterns, belts, hats, stoles, etc.

Don't know what your plans are for all of them so thought I would let you know of my intereat just in case....

Peace, Stephanie
