I was over @ Wally World (WalMart) this evening to snag a few yards of fabric to finish up my mini aprons & make new kittie pillows... I started chatting with the clerk and told her I was glad to see that WalMart hasn't removed the fabric section yet.
To my surprize & elation, the clerk informed me that the WalMart Corp. got over 60 thousand emails/letters/phone calls from patrons displeasure that WalMart is closing down their fabric section.
According to her store's main supervisor, WalMart will hold off another year before deciding whether or not to close down the fabric & notions department.
So check with your local Wally Worlds & see if it is true for all stores. In the mean time I am delighted (even though I won't benifitt from it down here) that the fabric sections are getting a reprive. Hope that is true for all of the Wally Worlds.
I am going to send another email to the parent company & say Thanx.

our Walmart removed their fabric section and when I went in there last week, the entire store was in total disarray, everything was topsy turvy being moved around..I couldn't find my way around at all and kept getting turned around so I just left and said phooey on it, when they get things sorted out maybe I'll go back and look around.
But personally I'm starting to prefer places like Joanne's and Hobby Lobby.
Although when our Walmart was selling out on the fabrics Naomi and I picked up alot of fabric that was on sale.

Thanks Aunt George for the site to sign the Wal-Mart petition to keep the fabric section. I signed it! So far my Wal-Mart still has the fabric section and they said it's not going anywhere! Fingers Crossed!

Hello kat-mom Grace! How is the packing going?! LOVE your latest apron on your blog! Is it to wear on our "Sisters on the Fly" outings?! Love those yo-yo's to ! I look at the darling SOTF apron you made me everyday! Still has the lavendar tucked in the pocket, ready to use at the Kern River trip!

Hugs,

Wow, now it makes sense. The fabric department was downsized when they added the food side of the building earlier this year. I have been really disappointed with the selection since they moved it. It was cut down by 2/3. Bummer.

Georgann,
I too luv the $1 table. I just bought some (9.5yds) cute fabric, pink, blue & mint green tiny floral printed fabrics. I origonally was looking for batting to use for the kittie comforters for our kitty carrier cages. So I was delighted to find these cute prints. Perfect for swaps/mini apronts/quilts etc...
Hopefully today I will get around to sewing the kitty comforters, along with the other 101 things to do on my list. And it is georgous & sunny outside taboot,,,which doesn't help when I have a ton of things to do inside the house!!! waaahhhh! I wanna go outside & play!

Most of my work is in Walmarts and I have 7 to call on for my job. Always have to detour through the fabric section on the way to the restrooms...which are usually cleaner at the back of the store. What I was told was that stores scheduled for a remodel to SuperCenter or upgrade would lose the fabrics and others would gradually be phased out by 2010. That was a month or so back, so maybe they've backtracked with so much feedback.

Our Wal-Mart is scheduled for a store redo in August and they said that the fabric section will go then. But he didn't know about the yarns.

Cool....My Wal-Mart has said that they will be keeping their department, but...that hasn't improved the $1 table yet. I'm hoping that if they do keep all of the fabric departments, they'll upgrade their dollar table again. They used to get in such really nice cottons for a dollar, but now it is mainly poly/cotton and polyester single knits.

Great detective work Grace!!

Thanks for letting us know. I've been keeping an eye on them around here. Seems like all they've done here is separate the fabric and craft departments and make things harder to find. Fabrics still there tho.
