Last night my dad couldn't sleep so we were chatting. He asked me how tatting works so I tried to explain it a little bit, and then I said "Well- How about I show you?" So last night my dad learned to tat! It was really fun to teach him how to do it, although I am not sure if he will KEEP doing it! LOL My dad is such a great sport :)

Oh My mom just reminded me of something I think you ladies are going to get a kick out of!

My dad is such a wonderful sport and has a great sense of humor. When one of my sisters was learning how to be a Mary Kay lady, my dad even let her give him a Mary Kay facial (cleansers and moisturizers only- not make up!) He is so great!

Ronna-

Don't I know it! I had a little bit of a rought childhood/teenage years with my family. They were great, but I had allergies that made me volitile and react with anger, frustration, and rage even. It was sad and scarey sometimes even in my own mind. Have you ever had one side of your brain be white hot in anger and the other side screaming "This isn't logical!!" That is what my allergies would do to me. Luckily, benedryl helped and my parents were awesome about trying to help me through it- providing foods I could eat and alternatives when others were enjoying something I was allergic to (Like chocolate or icecrem). Then in middle and high school I heard about all this drama from my friends, and even though my life didn't have the drama- I created it at home. I honestly take about 95% of the blame for the fights I had with my parents.

I feel really blessed to have matured past that point in my life and past the allergies too! I am proud to say that I am true friends with my mom and dad now. I always loved and respected them- I just didn't always act like it!

I am just lucky that they don't hold those times against me! :)

Someday I will have to post pictures of our cabin to show how handy my dad is at building things and I am slowly adding things to my mom's etsy shop (www.heritagedesigns.etsy.com) both are so talented!

Ah! I am so lucky to have my family, and the friends that are like extensions of our family too! I am feeling especially grateful today!

Alee,
These wonderful memories will be with you forever.
So many do not have a great childhood and adult relationships with their parents. I can tell you treasure them and that's worth it's weight in platinum or diamonds.

Maryjane-

My daddy sure is the best. He is a great father and grandfather. I could go on all day about both of my parents! When I think of all the things they have both done and learned for us girls! Wow! I hope I can be as good of a parent to my little Nora!

Yup! My dad is really sweet! He even made me a contraption to put the tatting thread on so it will spin without tangling.

I showed my dad how to hold the thread and then (and if you have seen MaryJane's book or know how to needle tat you will know what I mean by this:) the best way for him to remember how to do the stitch was:

"Clockwise- drag up, then counterclockwise-drag down" so once he got that part down he wanted to know how to do chains and rings. So that brought in counting the stitches.

Well, my dad is very musical so to keep the stiches straight (and please remember it was really late so this might be silly)- the first part of the first stich was named "Anda" and the second part was the number of the stich.

So it was "Anda, One- Anda, Two- Anda-Three Picot" lol :) But it worked!

Actually there are quite a few men who tat. Now how many of those men tell people they tat may be another thing. But if you look around the net on tatting sites there are more men then you would think who are tatters! What a nice thing for you and your dad! Daisy
