I am looking for a mentor of sorts that I can ask questions about knitting socks. I am sock beginner and feel lost.

Wow Angie....my DD lived in Buckley for 5 years. She moved from there in 2004 and now lives in Spokane. I was over there all the time. Darn! Isn't there a still a yarn shop just outside of Buckley somewhere? That's the person my DD learned from. I can't remember the name of it. She raises her own sheep even. I'll see if I can find it.

Angie - we lived there about 6 years. Late 90's til 2004. I worked in downtown Seattle for a few years, then went to work for the Muckleshoots as a parent-child liason for Even Start. Then my mom's Alzheimers got worse and I had to move to Centralia to care for her. I don't have any sibs. We sold our house on Kibler St. and moved in to help her, then she got worse and I had to put her in a home and sell her house to pay for her care. Now I'm waiting here in Elma for DH to take an early retirement.
As far as sock yarn goes, Ben Franklin in Bonney Lake has a pretty good selection. I still travel up there from elma to buy fabric, yarn etc. |

Oh that's a wonderful question! There are so many wonderful, beautiful sock yarns out there today. Plan to spend about $12-24 for a good pair of socks. You'll need to get at least 100g of sock yarn and many sock yarns come in handy 50g balls (so you'll need two).

KnitPicks is great - really nice yarns at much lower prices than yarn stores.
You'll need some needles for your sock yarn too, so check your label to see what's recommended for that yarn. Usually a US2 size works great, but socks are knit on anything from US0-US3. I knit mine on double-points, though you can knit socks on circulars by either using one for the "magic loop" method or two circulars. I haven't tried these methods because I'm too darn stubborn and love my double-points!
So...get your yarn, get your needles, read that tutorial, and cast on! We're here to help!

I am just starting to work on learning how to do socks. I am tired of only crocheting and knitting flat square stuff. =)I knit/crochet in spurts. So the latest goal is socks. The tutorial on that website was very helpful.
My first question is what kind of yarn to pick?
Sheri? Enumclaw? How long were you there? We've been in Buckley for 17+ years.

I'm a sock knitter and would be happy to help! I don't know everything about it, but I have churned out many, many pairs of socks in all different weights and patterns. I'm addicted to sock knitting!

There's probably quite a few of us that have knit socks before. I have knit quite a few pair, but almost always use the same pattern. I would be happy to help if it is something I know.
