I use to love to sew.
I still do. the problem is I have to sew in the dinning room , I excerise in there and do everythig but eat. ( sometmes I do when I am sewing Ha.)
I have a pinafore blue checked apron I am tring to finsh A grandmother's flower garden quilt block ( just blocks on white background. I am doing some machine embrodiery applique on it in balck)
It is purple with some white in it.
I have a skirt cut out and sewn up; but I need to put in a waist band.
when we get our retirement home built I will have a sewing room hopefully.
I am crocheting some coasters, and knitting off and on.
I just am stuck with the sewing.
Do any of you get that way. Just plain stuck and no interest in finishing your projects?
I think if I had a sewing room that is organzied and bright and cheerful I might feel like sewing. ? Ha Pinkroses |

I think we all have UFO.s and stashes but that is part of creativity.I have a lot of projects on go to. I keep handiwork by where I sit so when there I can pick it up. I have to have several sewing projects going at once so when I move them around I am not frustrated and things seem to be less frustrating that way. I have sewing room and use dining table so go figure. |

And some people think UFOs fly.....I wish mine did, right out of the house. LOL I recently had surgery and DH thought I needed something to do while recovering so knowing my love of embroidery he bought me a 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle that is a picture of skeins of embroidery thread. Really a tough puzzle, so I told him that when it was done I was going to glue it down and hang it on the wall of my sewing room. His reply was "so glue it down now and hang it up and it will be unfisnihed like all that other "stuff" in your sewing room". Murder crossed my mind!!!

Shelia, I am one of those that sews in the dining area of the house, too. We have a small home, the first floor being open around the staircase and bathroom. I sew on the dining room side while we eat on the kitchen side table. I have cupboards to hold fabric, projects and my sewing machine. The problem is that I outgrew those couple of cupboards. You change your mind about what to work on based on deadlines and the season. then those original plans and fabric and patterns get moved to the side, etc.
I have a rotating stack of UFOs. I am just about ready to machine quilt a pink top I finished in early spring and pin basted at least a month ago. I have two other flannel tops for my children looking at me with longing to be finished into quilts. I have several pieces of fabric and skirt patterns lying around as well.
I asked for a studio in my hubby's garage. If nothing else I want to see my fabric and supplies so when I get bit by creativity bug, I can jump right into it. I hope it will be done this fall. I will let you know if it helps.
I change projects depending on time, space and mood. Right now I am working on embroidered quilt blocks so I can take them with me to all activities and classes the kids are in as well as work on a few stitches while the computer downloads (Yes, we have very slow dial up service out here in the sticks). I just finished two quick skirts for summer for myself. Also, many pieced blocks for an exchange.
You probably need a new project. Seriously!! Sometimes a new project, done start to finish in fresh fabric, motivates you to finish up a UFO.
Purging is a great way to let someone else finish your project. I look all the time in the thrift store in town for fabric remnants, patterns and half finished projects. I found a nice coverall apron half done with its pattern this fall and finished it up. It took very little time, and I felt like the original starter would be thrilled to know it is finished and being used.
Good luck finding a way back to sewing. Even walking outside can motivate you to work on a project the next rainy day.

Goodness, I am glad Hubby doesn't see this!
Almost 20 years ago, I started knitting him a sweater. The front was fun; it was a cable stitch, and being new to knitting I really enjoyed it and finished it rather quickly. The back however was plain knit, and I got bored maybe halfway through. I put it away "for awhile" and it's STILL in a suitcase somewhere in the house. Last time I ran across it, maybe 4-5 years ago, I was unfortunate enough to open the suitcase with Hubby in the vicinity. He took one look at the contents and said "so, THAT'S where my sweater is. When are you going to finish it?"
That darned sweater has become a running joke between us; whenever I get into a situation where I don't want to finish something, he looks me straight in the eye and says "is that going to end up like my sweater?"

I just found a bag with a half finished jumper in it that I was making for my oldest daughter to wear in Jr. High. She is now a high school vice-principle. |

Yes, UFO can stack up on you and what you thought might be great a year ago you might not even like now. I purged the sewing room about 6 months ago. My sewing room, holds sewing, office extra. Little by little it is getting there and more organized. Takes time and figuring out where you are at. Keep going, you will figure it out. Do what you love. Carol Sue

I am stuck with finishing sewing up some diapers, baby wipes, crocheting and now I am hooked on tatting! I don't have ADD with anything but craft projects it seems!

Sheila I have a whole room and it is FILLED with UFOs. We moved in November and I am still putting away things in my sewing room and I purged big time before the move. I like having more than one thing going at a time but it does get to be too much sometimes. Before the move I got rid of anything I had started and really wasn't happy with. I find it hard to admit that I am not happy with something I have started but there comes a time you just have to face facts.

Sheila, it happened to me, too. I had so many things going at once that I got overwhelmed and couldn't finish anything. Every project was a source of stress for me. Finally I got into a couple of tv shows on organization. It helped me decide what things I really wanted to finish and what I just knew I'd never look at again. I purged my stuff and that helped free up my mind. I know this is not something that is popular with a lot of people, but I have disciplined myself to have only 1 or 2 things going at once. You may need to re-evaluate that skirt you are working on. Is it preventing you from moving on to other projects? Could you put it away and work on something else without dwelling on the skirt? Maybe you just need to move on to something else and find the skirt a new home! Maybe you would rather knit than sew right now and just do that!
I do have a space, but not a whole room. It helps me a lot using room in a non-common area of the house I don't have the pressure of needing to clean up when it's meal time or guests are coming.

I do dthat all the time that is why I always have so many projects going at once so if I get sick of one I can jump to another
