What nice things you found. The covered cake plate is especially nice. I love the color of it.

p.s. here's some info on 'sunbonnet' babies:

Eulalie Osgood Grover, a local children's author, was probably best known as the creator of a series of reading primers for young readers centered around the characters known as the "Sunbonnet Babies." Miss Grover was born June 22, 1873, in Mantorville, Minnesota and moved to Winter Park in 1926.

The Sunbonnet Babies Primer, published in 1902, was illustrated by Bertha L. Corbett and revolved around the adventures of Molly and May, two little girls whose faces were completely hidden by large sunbonnets. The primer was built around a 150-word vocabulary with later printings containing word lists to assist the teacher in picking out key words and phrases for emphasis.

The Sunbonnet Babies Primer was a huge success and was widely accepted in public schools throughout the United states. In 1905 Miss Grover published a second series , The Overall Boys, which introduced little boy characters.

oh tina .. your baby bonnet reminds me of a story of long ago. about 30 years ago, i was 'yard saling' in denver, colorado .. i came across the most precious victorian era white enamel 'baby tray' with 'sunbonnet babies' on it. i got a 'death grip on it and asked how much it was .. a man told me: 'oh that 'ole thing is $3.' .. i asked if he knew any history on it. he told me it had been his grandmother's. my heartstrings got tugged .. and i said: "oh my goodness .. your grammie's! don't you want to keep this forever?" he looked at me somewhat cynical and said: "why would i want to keep that old thing???"

to which .. my knuckles got even tighter as i clutched the baby tray to my heart .. and replied: "would you take TWO dollars?" he said 'yes' .. i gave him his two bucks .. and as i turned back towards my car, happily holding this dear tray and dreaming of my own girls using it forever and passing it to my grandchildren and their children's children .. i looked to the heavens with a twinkle in my eye and said: "that's for YOU grammie .. i'll love your tray forever!"

I'm really glad you found such sweet treasures. But I for one could not have parted with my grandfathers things. But thats not fair for me to say, you never know a families situation. We had to have an auction after my papa died about 3 years ago. And we bought back most of everything, between us all. There was a lot that went to though. I'm ashamed for saying what I said now and I'm tempted to go back and delete it before I even post, but I won't. I'll just watch what my mouth says next time. I have so many things from my grandparents home that most anyone else would have thrown away. But nooooo, not me, lol. I have to hang on to everything. Glad you found such great things, I'll have to visit so I can shop with you too!!!lol

my primitive style basket was full of antique bottles that belonged to the grandfather of the folks having the garage sale(I never saw him so no telling how old the stuff is)..and the baby bonnet was from a box that also belonged to the grandfather.

I plan on cleaning the bottles with vinegar.

I'll check them out on ebay to see if I can find out what they are..they appear to be some sort of tonic bottles..but what..I'm not sure...and the basket looks handmade, but don't know how old it is.

Oh, I also found a dragonware lusterware miniature pitcher (has the embossed dragon on the side of it) and it had a gold sticker..that said"souvenier of Virginia" ...got that for 10 cents.

And a pair of old quail ceramics small ..for 25 cents for the pair.
And a blue print floral old saucer for 10 cents.
And 2 beautiful little girl dresses for my youngest..at 50 cents each.
Oh and I found a really pretty shower curtain in a thick fabric ..almost like upholstery fabric feeel..thick good quality fabric..it is tan with large poppy flowers on it..just really pretty..got that for 50 cents...if I don't use it in my bathroom I can always use the fabric to make valances for another room in the house as it has alot of the colors I already use in it.

(It was one of those a nickle and a dime buys quite a bit days..ha)
It was alot of fun..and we plan on scouting out the garage sales tomorrow.I had not been garage saling in quite a while so it was fun to head out and see what we could find.

Naomi, sounds like you done a great job and found some really neat goodies. I went to the goodwill store today and found a sweet navy blue shawl for a dollar, 6 linen tea towels for 50c each, 6 cotton tea towels 50c each and a cross stitched I believe pillow case, that has been started, still has the needle in place, for 95c and a bag of wicking yarn and laces and odds n ends for 50c. I especially love the shawl and plan to take it to my get-away cabin to use on cool nights. I have a couple out there already, but when company comes I need to keep them warm too, ;0). Have a great weekend Naomi!!!
