Posted - Apr 30 2007 : 6:11:10 PM I am an absolute newbie to sewing with a machine and cannot find a manual for my particular machine. Is there anyone here that can help me figure out where to start? It's not obvious to me how to string the thread through all the of the various parts of this machine. Please help.
The machine is a Universal Super De Luxe made in Japan around 1957-61. I've searched online for info on this machine but have not found anything relevant or useful.
Thanks. |

Posted - May 01 2007 : 03:42:40 AM Hi Kim and welcome to MJ's. Just a thought. If you need to take it in for a tune up at a repair shop, perhaps you can watch them thread it?
Sewing machines have a few threading things in common: A place to put the spool of thread, next a guide before the tension, a tension mechanism, another down then up guide. Then a moving take up mechanism, another down guide then a guide for the thread above the needle and then the needle. See if you can find these landmarks on your sewing machine. Here is a site that might help too:

Do you have a digital camera? If you do can you take a photo of your machine and email it to me? I've threaded all kinds of machines in the past.....
Oh, one more thing. Do you know how to wind your bobbin thread? Then when you put your bobbin in the bobbin case...most sewing machines work with the bobbin winding off counter clockwise, so pull your thread and make sure the bobbin is unwinding counterclockwise before placing it in the bobbin holder in your machine.
