I have an aunt in her 70s in Billings, Montana who belongs to a group of ladies who meet once a month. She says that between them, they have all the skills necessary to be self sufficient, but no younger person is interested in learning these skills, they are too busy taking their kids to soccer practice. I would love to prove her wrong by introducing her to some younger people who are interested in learning from their elders, or maybe just spending time with them and making them feel valued again. Is there any interest?

Brenda, I love this! I wish I lived closer, because I'd be there in a heartbeat!
I just had a thought, though: Why not make some videos of the ladies sharing their best, and post them on YouTube or something like that? I would be following every single episode, and I am sure they would be very proud to see just how many hits their videos get! I am sure - SURE - that more people would relish this type of thing! They have so much to share, and we have so much to learn... Please let us know if you ever do anything like this, okay?

Oh wow, do I wish they were in my neighborhood. I miss the "wise women" and that is what draws me to the MJ Farmgirl Connection. I learn from you. Perhaps they can write down some of their knowledge and make a spiral bound booklet for sale. (Similar to the PTA School Cookbooks). I would love to learn what they know about different topics concerning how to live and survive. It would be one way to preserve their knowledge and document their suggestions and stories. But it may be quite an undertaking for some of them if they have difficulty typing or writing.
Another idea is for them to plan a "Wisdom Conference" with a schedule of topics. I would attend workshop presentations for about three days to gain this information. However, the wisdom may not be able to be condensed into manageable units of meeting times for one main event. Again, this does take some planning, with the infrastructure of lodging available nearby to house the amount of interest and attendance.
One last idea is for them to culminate some kind of Newsletter format and sell it to subscribers. I know this takes some legal work to be able publish. Or, have MJ Farmgirl organization gather their information and publish another book. Ha! I know easy for me to say. Lots of work in all of that!

I think she was really picturing people coming to their meetings, but I will ask her about the long distance mentoring. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I live in Virginia but I wouldn't mind chatting with them by mail like Jana said! I love Montana and have visited there several times. It's a beautiful state.

Brenda, are any of these gals willing to mentor long distance through email or snail mail? I would love to learn from them, but live too far away. Maybe like a penpal type of thing.

I have been thinking about mentors lately and wanting to find one for myself and be one to someone younger. I am blessed to be 51 and feel i can both get and give to someone younger and older right now.
I am in Pennsylvania though, so can't actually get together with them. If you can think of other ways to begin a mentor type program with them, I would be interested in something like that.
