I just don't think I can... Keep in mind we have a family of 5!!

Ok ladies! Let me have it straight! The good, bad, and ugly of composting toilets if you have/ had one! I am talking about in your house, purchased composting toilets. GO!

I plan on getting a van eventually, and want to get a portable toilet, but am undecided on which type I'd rather deal with.

The goat farm we volunteered on in South Carolina had one and I loved it!! She kept toilet paper in a coffee can with a lid to keep in clean, and a bucket was in there with lots of leaves when you were done, to cover it with. She used it primarily for her farm tours... But one day I would love to have one! We don't have any trees, so I'm not sure how that aspect would work...

I want one so bad, but DH just thinks it's disgusting. Would love to hear others continue to chime in....

In my boat search I have researched this a lot.
IMO, I plan to do a DIY C-head type toilet. You can read about them here http://www.c-head.com/FAQ.html

Well, this is a bit late but I'll bite. :)
We have an outhouse so a composting toilet would be a definite step up. I used to stay at a cabin in Maine that had one and it wasn't bad at all. No smell. Look down the hole and all you see is a bit of sawdust-looking material. I never had to empty it but I am willing to bet it is a bit less gross than taking the sh*t shovel we use to move the poo around and settle down further in our outhouse hole.

It's amazing what can become normal. :)

If your dream doesn't scare you to death......it's not big enough.
