We are new to burning with a wood stoves. What do you do with your ashes. What beneficial ways can we use them?

If you use too many ashes in your gardens the soil could become too alkaline. Always pull a soil test first. Also ashes get tracked in the house and make a mess

We use ours for getting rid of the ice in the driveway too.
Didn't now about the compost. Good information!

wood ashes are wonderful..besides using to prep a garden they are wonderful dusted under trees & bushes. they are also great to use in your compost, just add a layer in between the other materials as you add the layers,it also helps break down the materials faster.

We also use them on the driveway, if it gets icey. Works great for traction.
